Park junior distance ace Henry Joa ran his way into high up on the Park all-time best Friday in the Hamline Elite Meet Friday at Hamline University.
Joa clocked a time of 4:22.13 in the 1,600-meter run, which places him second in the all-time best Park list. Only Jason Boon’s time of 4:19.6 set in 1992 has been faster.
Joa, who finished 13th overall in the elite race, was the lone Wolfpack to place in the meet. He qualified for the meet by running a 4:27.43 at the White Bear Lake meet.
“It’s a great achievement to be able to run at the Hamline Elite Meet,” said Park coach Brad Narveson. “Henry has worked very hard to get to this point. He handled everything really well for this being his first time at this meet. Henry ended up setting a personal best against some of the best runners in the state. He ran 4:22 which is five seconds faster than he has ever run before. We’re very proud of all he’s accomplished to this point. But we know the works not done. He has loftier goals ahead of him and we’ll do our best as coaches to help him reach those goals.”
Park track and field fans will get to see the Wolfpack at home for the first time this season as the Wolfpack boys and girls host the Matt Maher Invite Thursday at Wolfpack Stadium, starting at 3:30 p.m. for the field events and 3:45 on the track. Teams competing will be Burnsville, East Ridge, Woodbury, Eastview, New Life Academy and Park.
