The Washington County Library will feature online programs throughout February.

Note: All Washington County Library branches will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15, for Presidents’ Day.

Washington County Library offers online programs for residents to enjoy at home. Registration is required so that participants receive the link to join virtually. In addition to featured events, book clubs have transitioned to virtual meetings and storytimes premiere on the library’s Facebook page every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Meet new people, connect with others for support and laughter and learn about community resources. Civil Legal Advice Clinic, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 The Washington County Law Library provides monthly Civil Legal Advice Clinics. Get a free half-hour consultation with a local volunteer attorney covering a range of topics, such as default judgment, housing/eviction, consumer issues, conciliation court, and automobile title transfers. Virtual Let’s Make Stuff: Fused Glass Suncatcher, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8

Join a Virtual Let’s Make Stuff! to get crafty and learn something new. In this class, each participant will create their own Fused Glass Suncatcher, presented by Artistry. This program will be via Zoom. All basic supplies will be included in a kit, which should be available for pickup 7-10 days before the event at your local library. Registration is required. Virtual: Setting Up a Small Business Website, 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9

Get started with your new blog or small business website. Learn how to register your new business with the State of Minnesota and pick out a corresponding domain name. Discuss blog/website hosting options and then learn to run the site successfully. This workshop, hosted by Washington County Library and funded by MELSA, will be presented by Keer Keer Creative. Virtual Minnesota Author Series: William Green, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9

The Minnesota author series, Write in Our Midst, continues with author William Green. Green will be speaking on his most recent book, Nellie Francis: Fighting for Racial Justice and Women’s Equality in Minnesota. Nellie Francis was a black woman from St. Paul who helped lead the suffrage campaign, and after the 1920 lynching of three back men in Duluth successfully lobbied for the enactment of the state’s antilynching law. Green will discuss his work and answer audience questions. This program is funded by the Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The Washington County Law Library provides weekly Criminal Legal Advice Clinics. Get a free half-hour consultation with a local volunteer attorney covering a range of topics from traffic tickets, criminal process, criminal expungement, to DANCO orders. Without connecting a to Google and other search engines, the website is an island. SEO connects your website to the world wide web and makes it searchable in Google. Learn about SEO principles and Google’s algorithm to build a website that Google will index. Avoiding COVID-19 Scams and Fraud, 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18

Learn to avoid scams with this free, virtual program presented by AARP Minnesota. The Federal Trade Commission warns that bad actors are using the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to deceive consumers and steal their money or sensitive information.
