Featured Events Virtual: Write in Our Midst Gloria Van Demmeltraadt Thursday, February 3 from 7 to 8 P.M. Join us for an evening in conversation with Gloria Van Demmeltraadt, author of cozy mysteries, memoir and children’s books. Her most recent work, Trouble in Deep Lake, continues the antics of McKenzie Ward as she solves crime in New York City and tries to keep things in small town Minnesota on track. Virtual: Copywriting Tips and Techniques Tuesday, February 8 from 1 to 2:30 P.M. Copywriting has a language all its own, and this seminar will explore the tricks and traps in the practice. We’ll look at headlines, writing to sell, capturing attention, and much more. Using what we’ve discussed and learned, we’ll work through a number of specific writing challenges, including your own. This workshop, hosted by Washington County Library and funded by MELSA, will be presented by The Loft. Registration is required. Take and Make with Gibbs Farm: Pioneer Quilt Squares Wednesday, February 9 Use fabric pieces to make your own Pioneer Quilt Square! This kit includes all the materials you need plus an instructional video connecting the project to the history of Dakota and pioneer life in Minnesota. We’ve partnered with Gibbs Farm and used funding from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage to provide you with the materials for this program. For ages 5-12. Registration is not required.

Virtual: Write in Our Midst – Wendy Webb Thursday, February 10 from 7 to 8 P.M. Join us for an evening in conversation with Wendy Webb, author of gothic suspense set in the Great Lakes region. Her most recent work, The Keepers of Metsan Valo, is the tale of a family struggling with grief and old conflicts. In the midst of family tensions a series of mysterious events occur, leading Anni to uncover the truth about her ancestral home. Registration is required. Join us in singing, talking, reading, writing, and playing at this inclusive, welcoming storytime for families at Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park. This storytime focuses on concepts such as life skills, counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and kindness. Storytime is your opportunity to meet new friends, socialize, and strengthen early literacy skills! This storytime will be held outdoors near the playground and Ravine Landing. Please dress for the weather. It will be cancelled if there is a weather advisory.

Snowy Story Stroll Saturday, February 19 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M.

Join your neighbors at Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park for a snowy story stroll as part of the Blizzard Bash! The stroll will begin at Ravine Landing and continue down the path for you to read the pages together as you walk, ride, or snowshoe your way to the end. Other activities will be available through our county park staff. Please dress for the weather and hope for snow! No registration required. This event is recommended for all ages.

Virtual: Proposals that Engage Tuesday, February 22 from 1 to 2:30 P.M.

Potential stakeholders need to connect with ideas. The strongest proposals don’t just relate the compelling facts, they weave them together into a powerful story to make an idea, need, or purpose into something visceral. But how do you actually do that? In this seminar, we’ll look at the principles of storytelling and proposal structure and make sure that your next one makes your best ideas come to life. Bailey is a writer, researcher, and former professor of English and cultural studies. Her book, How the Streets Were Made: Housing Segregation and Black Life in America, examines the creation of “the streets” not just as a physical, racialized space produced by segregationist policies, but also as a sociocultural entity that has influenced our understanding of Blackness in America for decades.
