The weather may not have been swim suit ready but the blooming season of all those things that can bloom this time of the year are going crazy in a beautiful way. It is so amazing to see those full trees and bushes of color. The plum trees (and maybe others) are also sending out beautiful smells to go along with the colors. It is a total reassurance that a new season is upon us.
This past week has also seen an explosion of spring flowers and grasses that got the message it’s time to pop up and do their thing. It seems like last week I did not have any ferns or hostas showing and this week the ferns are 2 feet tall and hostas are springing up all over the place. The primroses are out in all kinds of colors and have many flowers on each plant. The bleeding hearts are starting to open up and it looks like it is going to be another bumper crop of maple seedlings this year. The money plants are in full bloom and later I will have a good crop of coins in my garden. Yellow woodland phlox are adding a sunny touch to all the other colors. Not sure were all the Texas blue bells came from but I do have a sea of blue in the shade garden. The Dutchman’s breaches have been showing off for a while and the trilliums in several different colors are saying “look at me”.
The daffodils are going into a rest to get ready for next year along with some of the tulips, but a lot are just at their peak or will be in another week or so. It has been so much fun to stop and look at the ever changing show along my driveway. I will be transplanting a number of things after they are finished blooming and I will also be ordering more bulbs to plant this fall. I have mostly forgotten all the pain of the cold and snow while planting out those babies last November and look forward to an even better flower show next spring.
So much to do outside and so little time and energy to get all the dreams done before I need a nap and tea break. The She Shed Studio B is roaring ahead with a great concrete patio pour by MD Concrete. It’s amazing what a group of strong men and a concrete mixer truck can do in a few hours. (A batch of fresh, out of the oven cookies went over very well). The totally beautiful, perfect pour did get some neighbor’s dog tracks in it that stressed me out for awhile. Neighbor Tony said it was a baby bear as the prints have only 4 toes. The baby bear will get 5 when it grows up and in the mean time it makes an amazing story of a baby bear just passing through checking out the She Shed! Neighbor Tony is a wonderful story teller. Remember, a story.
I am told that the story of how I broke my right hand, little finger needs to be made public. The claim I am making is that I “fell off my shoes”. Shoes and I are not always together and Husband Larry said I should really get to know them better. I usually will get on my LL Bean slip-ons but being wool they tend to get wet in early morning grass or rain. I was a good girl and manged to get my serious Sketchers out, feet inserted and found that I still remember how to tie laces. I am basing my story on the fact that the Sketchers have serious tread markings and they got tangled up with the wet grass and I could not keep my balance and crashed to the ground. I thought I probably did very serious damage to my right shoulder and ended up laying on the ground for a period of time in pain. Cell phone was tucked in my pocket and I did try calling Husband Larry but the line was busy as he was doing a very, very rare phone call. I managed to get up and then noticed my finger was also in pain but keep thinking I did something to the shoulder. It was only later that I noticed the finger looking not right. It’s 3 weeks later and the pain is still intense at times. I will not be sending any messages with it. P.S. The shoulder is just fine, no damage to report.
