The St. Paul Park-Newport Lions Club made an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) donation at the June 16 St. Paul Park City Council meeting. The new AED Save Station cabinet is located on the north side of the maintenance building in Heritage Park, allowing park visitors 24/7 access to life saving equipment and use instructions in case of sudden cardiac arrest. The term “cardiac arrest” refers to interruption of the heart’s electrical signal, with signs including sudden collapse, no pulse, no breathing, and a loss of consciousness. It is not the same as a heart attack, which involves artery blockage. Contributing factors to sudden cardiac arrest can include coronary artery disease, a heart attack, enlarged heart, heart valve disease, congenital heart defect. Risk factors for cardiac arrest include family history, smoking, high blood pressure or cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, previous heart attack, or an inactive lifestyle.
Made to safe lives, the new AED donation at Heritage Park joins an earlier donation in downtown St. Paul Park, affixed to the side of the St. Paul Park-Newport Lions Club building.
