Staff Report

Charlotte Lindquist is a retired teacher who taught elementary students for 40 years in South Washington County School District. She had fun using her years of teaching experience to disguise learning in a unique way through this children’s book.

Her inspiration to write children’s literature evolved from the challenge of trying to find books for her students that enabled the reader to practice their reading skills, enjoy a fun fact-filled story and have a learning experience all at the same time.

The setting of the story is the beautiful scenic shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. Suzy tells her story of hunger and how her brothers saved her life.

A major impetus behind writing this book was to raise awareness of childhood hunger. One in five children in the United States are struggling with hunger issues. Charlotte dedicated this book to these children. To a starving child, hope can only begin with a reliable source of nutrition. That is the reason that she is dedicating a portion of all books sales to Feed My Starving Children. This is a non-profit organization that distributes meals each day to schools and orphanages feeding programs around the world.

Another reason this book is unique, is that Charlotte’s daughter an amazing artist and illustrator compliments her mother’s words with her authentic watercolor pencil images found on every page. Together they created a collaborative piece of art titled Suzy the Hungry Gull.

Charlotte’s daughter, Cindy has been a marketing professional for more than 25 years with a degree in Graphic Design. She is currently a marketing manager at Okta Inc., an IT security, identity, and access management company based out of San Francisco, CA.

Suzy the Hungry Gull was published on April 1, 2021 and can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble as well as book sellers internationally.
