Motorcycle passenger ejected after contact with SUV

COTTAGE GROVE, MN – August 3, 2025, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 61 around 6:54 p.m. near the northbound exit ramp to 70th Street South. As a result of that incident, a woman was rushed to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being thrown from a motorcycle involved in the accident. The driver of the motorcycle was later arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail for criminal vehicular operation.
The State Patrol report stated the Harley Davidson Road King and the Land Rover LR4 were both travelling northbound on Highway 61 at 70th Street when the vehicles made contact. The passenger of the Harley Davidson was ejected from the motorcycle. The passenger was identified as Kimberly Ann Robinson, age 60, of Newport, MN. Robinson was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening injuries from the accident. It is unknown if Robinson had been drinking.
The driver of the Harley Davidson Road King, identified as Lonnie William Cory, age 70, of Inver Grove Heights, fled the scene of the accident before the authorities arrived.
Multiple agencies responded, including Cottage Grove Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Cottage Grove Fire Department, St. Paul Park Fire Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
Officers from MN State Patrol arrested Cory at his home in the 2100 block of 62nd Street East in Inver Grove Heights at 8:28 p.m. He was arrested on charges of Criminal Vehicular Operation - Great Bodily Harm - Alcohol Concentration .08 or More which is statute 609.2113.1 (3) and booked into Washington County Jail pending investigation. Cory was not wearing a helmet and was listed as not having any injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Land Rover, Robert Michael Grundvig, age 62 and Heidi Jean Buhlman-Grundvig, age 56, both of Flagler Beach Florida were not injured and both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
The incident remains under investigation with charges expected once the toxicological test results and accident reconstruction are completed.
