Park took to the ice for only the second time this season Wednesday in a Suburban East Conference girl’s hockey matchup Wednesday against visiting Mounds View.
But Park’s rust was evident as the visiting Mustangs skated to a 4-0 victory.
Park just couldn’t mount much of an offense as the Mustangs outshot them 33-19. The Wolfpack were outshot 18-11 in the first two periods.
Park had January games against Irondale/ St. Anthony and Roseville postponed because of Covid-19.
Considering it was only their second time on the ice this season, Park head coach Bay Shock wasn’t entirely displeased with how the Wolfpack skated.
“You know what, I didn’t think it was too bad,” said Shock. “We just came off of 14 days of not playing because of Covid. If you look at last year, or any year, Super Bowl Sunday is when we usually seed for sections. We’re 0-2.Yeterday was our first practice back and you could tell the legs weren’t there.
“I thought five-on-five we weren’t too bad,” Shock continued. “We went at them, we for-checked. Have to find a goal-scorer, maybe get a bounce here and there. But it was fun to watch them, its fun to see that they’re starting to pick up some things and they’ve talking to each other on the bench. You could just tell the gas wasn’t quite full right there.
“I thought that our line of (Molly) Villas, (Emma) Osland and (Julia) Menard, our grey line we call them, really played well. They kept us moving along,” said Shock.
Mounds View led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after two.
Park fell to 0-2.
Mounds View improved to 4-2.
Both teams were whistled for just three infractions for a total of six minutes.
Park plays at White Bear Lake (1-4) Saturday, then hosts Woodbury (0-5) Tuesday, Feb, 9, starting at 7:30 p.m.
