Looking for something fun and family friendly to do before the summer’s out?

Why not try Movies at the Park. With two FREE showings left this season at Highland Park in Cottage Grove, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

First put on last year by local realtor Monique Garza, two different showings remain for this year.

Scheduled for July 28 at 7:30 p.m. is Disney’s Raya: the Last Dragon.

Rated PG and first released in 2021, the film tells the story of Kumandra, a long ago world where dragons and humans lived in harmony. When monsters called Drunn threatened Kumandra, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. With the monsters back five centuries on, it’s time for a lone hero to track down the last dragon and together stop the Drunn monster threat for good. The featured food truck for Raya and the Last Dragon will be Carnaval Mexican Grill.

In case July 28 doesn’t work in you or your family’s schedule, there’s August 11, when the DC League of Superpets will be shown. With featured food truck being from Northwood’s Smokehouse, the PG rated League of Superpets is about the relationship between superpets and their superhero owners, as well as with each other.

Starring Krypto the Superdog as Superman’s dog and a guinea pig named Lulu as Lex Luthor’s sidekick, the League of Superpets takes off with the human side of the Justice League trapped and dependent on their best friends for rescue.

From wreaking havoc to saving the day, Superpets good and bad use their powers to augment their owners. Just don’t trust that guy named Lex. Lulu the Guinea Pig does, and it’s truly heartbreaking—or at least we suspect as much.

Once again, Movies at the Park takes place at Highland Park in Cottage Grove, located at 6975 Idsen Avenue South in Cottage Grove. The movies are free, with showtime at 7:30 p.m.
