New developments planned in Cottage Grove

The pandemic hasn’t put a damper on economic development in Cottage Grove.

Mayor Myron Bailey reported this weekend that there are several projects coming up.

On the agenda for for Feb. 8 is a new Caribou Coffee location with a drive-thru.

“Cottage Grove has been asking for a Caribou with a drive-thru! Well…you will be getting one!” Bailey wrote on his Facebook page.

The new coffee spot will be located on the corner of 80th Street and Hinton Avenue. A building currently at that site will be razed.

Bailey also reported: “There is a new business that will be going into the former MGM location next to TJ Maxx. I don’t know too much about it yet but it sounds like a salon/spa type business. (The sign is up on the window).”

“We’ve had many developers in town recently looking at various projects! They range from various types of housing, restaurants, specific retailers, gas stations, and business park uses! As I am able to share more – I will let you know. In most of these cases…It is early – but I am very encouraged as I have been receiving many phone calls – even in this COVID situation!” “Regarding housing some of the options range from single family, single family rentals, Both Market Rate Apartments and Workforce Housing Apartments. We will see town homes, twin homes and some new types of housing not seen in our market yet. Stay tuned!”

“Though I cannot speak specifically to the restaurants looking to locate in town – I can tell you that some are what I have heard from some of you that you want! In the meantime…as restaurants are able to start re-opening…Please support all our local restaurants and retailers! They need us now more than ever!”
