The Night to Unite is almost here, arriving to Cottage Grove Tuesday, August 5. Similar events are planned for St. Paul Park and Newport.
Started as a way to build connections between community residents, police, fire, and elected officials, the Night to Unite is sponsored by the Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety and Public Safety board, as well as Minnesota Crime Prevention Association (MCPA).
The Night to Unite is meant to do many things, including heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, support anti-crime efforts, strengthen community spirit and build strong public safety-community partnerships.
Activity options for Night to Unite parties include barbecues, ice cream socials, kids’ games, music, pizza parties, potlucks, and sitting on the front porch to visit. A registration form for those interested in hosting a Night to Unite party is available on the city website at ww.cottagegrovemn.gov, with the deadline to register Tuesday, July 29.
Also included in this year’s Night to Unite August 5 is a coloring contest, thanks to a partnership between Parks and Recreation and the Public Safety Department. Contest entry drawing is available via link on the city website by clicking “Public Safety” on the city’s homepage, followed by “Police” and “Get Involved,” with Night to Unite on the left hand side. Coloring contest photos are due to city hall by Friday August 8, with entrants asked not to include coloring contest entries in “Fill the Backpack” or “Paper Products Drive” pick-up items.
First name and phone number should be on the back of each contest entry, with Parks and Recreation staff randomly drawing a winner after the deadline.
Those with additional questions on the upcoming Night to Unite in Cottage Grove may contact the Cottage Grove Department of Public Safety at 651-458-2850.
