Top-ranked Forest Lake showed why it’s atop the polls Monday at Cottage Grove.
The Suburban East Conference leaders dominated Park in a 15-0 win in four innings Monday afternoon to roll to 12-1 in the league and remain solidly No. 1 in the rankings. Forest Lake has lost just once this season, to third-ranked Stillwater, and blew past the Wolfpack in both games this season, winning the first 10-2 and then 15-0 on Monday.
This one was a game the Wolfpack will likely happily forget.
“That’s a really good Forest Lake team, they’re No. 1 in the state for a reason and they came out hitting the ball,” said Park head coach Tony Young. “We threw a lot of different stuff at them and made great adjustments, and you know what, we’re going to learn a lot from this. We have to.
“There’s no time to whine about it and pout about it,” Young continued. “We’ve got Irondale tomorrow and we’ve got to bounce back. It’s just this conference is so tough, there’s never an easy game and when you don’t have your best sometimes you get exposed. Today we certainly didn’t give our best.”
Forest Lake scored five runs in the second, then added eight more in the third to take complete control of the game. All seven of the Rangers’ runs in the disastrous third inning came after Park pitcher Stella Fritsche got the first two batters to fly out. Forest Lake then added insult to injury with two more runs in the fourth and final inning.
The Rangers rapped out 18 hits to just four for the Wolfpack, two singles by Ava Youngquist and one each by Alayna Adamez and Peyton Moerke. Park batters struck out six times and no Park runners advanced past second.
Park slipped to 8-5 in the conference, tied for third in SEC, and fell to 9-5 on the season.
White Bear Lake 1, Park 0
Park failed to score for the first time this season dropping a tough 1-0 decision to visiting White Bear Lake Tuesday.
Park 13, Cretin-Derham Hall 1
After being held scoreless on Tuesday, Park’s bats came alive in a major way Wednesday, routing the Raiders at Cretin-Derham Hall by a 13-1 score.
Park 9, Mounds View 0
Playing their third game in three days, the Wolfpack still had more than enough to down host Mounds View Thursday, winning 9-0.
Park 8, Roseville 3
Park finished the week with an 8-3 road win at Roseville on Friday.
Park scored four runs in the fifth, then added four more in the seventh to pull away.
Mackenzie Darsow pitched, homered, singled, walk and scored two runs. Lauren Osland, Maddie Boothe and Jenna Squillace had two singles each for the Wolfpack.
Darsow gave up just two hits and struck out 10, retiring the side in the sixth and seventh with six straight strikeouts.
Park hosts Woodbury (6-6, 6-7) Wednesday, plays at Stillwater (12-3, 13-3) Friday, then hosts East Ridge (8-5, 9-5) on Monday, May 12. Woodbury, East Ridge and especially Stillwater game will be three more big tests for the Wolfpack.
