Forest Lake’s Samantha Ernst won most of the battles, but the Park Wolfpack won the war in a battle of two Class AA top 15 teams Thursday.

Thirteenth-ranked Park edged the 15th ranked Rangers 134.975 to 134.775 for the team title. Park’s team score was off just a bit from the Wolfpack’s season best.

“It’s very good that we’re having high scores at the beginning of the season so we’re confident that we’re going to have high scores at the end,” said Park’s Rainna Jameson, who was third in the all-around. “

Ernst won the vault, bars, beam and all-around with a score of 36.2.

Park’s Rainna Jameson won the floor exercise with a score of 9.15.

“I think I did really good (on floor),” said Jameson. “I improved my first pass and didn’t go out of bounds this time, so I was really happy.”

“Rainna been working on her form and just kind of perfecting things and that showed tonight in her all around score,” said Park head coach Ali Flaata. “Our whole varsity vault crew has been making really big strides toward doing their vaults by themselves, so that’s coming along really nicely.”

Park’s Ashley Davis returned to compete in all four events and was second in the all-around with a score of 34.9. She was followed by Jameson, third, 34.625 and Emily Dahlstrom, fourth, 32.975. Natalya Rugel was sixth (24.850) and Clara Opichka eighth (23.600) in the all-around.

“I think the girls are adding in their skills that maybe at the beginning of the year they weren’t ready for yet,” said Dahlstrom. “That’s for sure. I think that our vaults have gotten a lot better by ourselves more instead of spotted, which really helps our team score.

“We had some weird things today like beam wasn’t as consistent as last week but beam is hard to stay consistent on,” Dahlstrom added. “But I do think that every week we’re improving and I think we will only go up from here.”

Coach Flaata was pleased with the win, but concerned the team is still showing some inconsistencies.

“It was OK,” said Flaata. “We’re making improvements it’s just that when we do well on one event one week its not as good the other week, so we’re just working on our consistency.

“Upward climb, that’s the goal,” Flaata continued.

On the vault, Jameson was third (9.0), Davis fourth (8.950), Rugel fifth (8.8) and Dahlstrom sixth (8.425).

Davis was second on bars (8.450) to pace the Wolfpack. Jameson was fourth (8.4), Dahlstrom fifth (7.6) and Opichka sixth (7.475).

The Wolfpack struggled a bit on beam, with Davis’s 8.4 the top score in fourth place. Dahlstrom was fifth with an 8.350.

Jameson (9.150) and Davis (9.1) finished 1-2 on the floor. Dahlstrom was fifth (8.6) and Opichka sixth (8.225).
