Make a plan and mark your calendars. The next Cottage Grove Planning Commission Meeting is set to debut live at CottageGroveMN on You-Tube this Monday, June 28, at 6:55 p.m.

Along with this public announcement, however, comes one of decidedly high note: the Cottage Grove Council voted at its June 16 meeting to authorize issuing a special event permit to All Saints Lutheran Church for their “Jazz in July” concert this upcoming July 25.

The motion to approve passed the Council unanimously 5-0, with motion to approve made by Council member Justin Olsen, seconded by La Rae Mills. The motion to approve summer fun at All Saints wasn’t the only item on the Council agenda, however—there was much more.

Starting out with the Pledge, followed by roll call, then moving into adoption of the agenda as presented and approval the consent agenda, the Council next moved to approve City disbursements for the period of May 18 through June 17, in the amount to $1,166, 490.46.

followed by the All Saints Lutheran Church concert permit, the Council then moved into adopting Resolution 2021-090, awarding the South District Sanitary Sewer Project Phase 1 to Geislinger & Sons for the base bids along with alternates #1 and #3, coming out to $3,558,880.50.

The motion to adopt Resolution 2021-090 for the project passed unanimously 5-0, followed with approval of Resolution 2021-088, approving the preliminary plat and final plat for what will be termed the Southeast Industrial Park Second Addition, including a 12.57-acre development lot along with one 23.03-acre outlot for future development.

Following the approval of Resolution 2021-088, the Council then moved to adopt Resolution 2021-089, thereby approving the site plan review for a 35,600 square foot addition to an existing facility for North Start Sheets located at 7550 91st Street South along with an off-street parking accessory use on Lot 1, Block 1, of the Southeast Industrial Park Second Addition.

The motion passed 5-0.

Following upon a unanimously approval for Resolution 2021-083 regarding a modular structure at Pine Harbor Church, it was into the Fowl & Poultry Ordinance review, which failed with a 1-4 vote against approving in-city poultry. Council vice-president Steve Dennis voted in favor of the resolution, all others voting against. A motion by Council member Olsen initially seconded by Council member Dave Thiede and followed by discussion later saw Thiede rescind his second, the motion to have the Planning Commission explore the issue further failing as a result of this.

Towards the end, a motion by Thiede seconded by Council member Mills to adopt Resolution 2021-081 approving the community Center question to issue general obligation bonds November 2 passed unanimously, putting the proposed Community Center project in the hands of the voters, pending referendum. Following this, a motion was made by Council member Olsen, seconded by Council member Thiede to adjourn the meeting, passing unanimously.
