Ninth-seeded Park aced visiting and 10th-seeded Hastings 5-2 in the first round of the Section Class AA boys' tennis tournament Monday, advancing to the second round.
The Wolfpack, now 7-12 on the season, will host 12th-seeded Eagan in the second round.
Park went 1-2 in boys' tennis in the last week of the regular season, losing matches at Mounds View, to Forest Lake, then smashing Harding.
Park fell at Mounds View 7-0 on Tuesday, lost to Forest Lake 6-1 on Thursday, then capped the week with a 6-1 win over visiting Harding Friday at Cottage Grove.
Park’s top doubles team of seniors Tom Lucas and Nate Holmgren was the only Wolfpack winner against Forest Lake, winning 6-3, 6-7, 10-3.
The Wolfpack went 6-1 against Harding in a windy regular season finale Friday, losing only at No. 1 singles. Park’s Caleb Swigart lost a hard-fought three-set match at No. 1 singles, falling 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Park winners included Josh Hess at No. 2 singles (2-6, 6-1, 6-2), Ethan Cole at No. 3 singles (6-2, 7-5), and Tyler McKenzie at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-3).
The Wolfpack swept the doubles, going 6-0 in games, with Holmgren-Lucas winning at No.1 doubles (6-0, 7-5), Matt Petersen-Ethan Lo at No. 2 doubles (6-4, 6-1) and Dylan Conn-Brayden Elle at No. 3 doubles (6-2, 6-3).
