Park dropped its season home opener in a slugfest to visiting Cretin-Derham Hall Monday, losing 16-11 in a game moved from St. Paul to Cottage Grove.
“We didn’t pitch well at all,” said Park head coach Dave Darr. “They hit the ball hard, all over the park.”
Cretin ripped off 11 runs in a huge second inning to put Park in a 13-2 hole early. The Wolfpack got some of that back with a five-run fourth inning. But Cretin then added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 16-7 lead.
Josh Hatano led the Wolfpack offensively, going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Sam Janksi rapped two doubles and had two RBIs. Will Smoot also drove in a pair of runs.
Park committed four errors.
Park used four pitchers, but none had much success against the Raiders.
Park opened the season Saturday in a 7-1 loss at Hastings.
“It was nice to see our bats come alive after having a difficult time on Saturday,” Darr said. “We feel like we are going to be able to hit the ball this year, we just need to find ways to get out consistently on the mound without giving up loads of runs.”
Park (0-2) is scheduled to host Mounds View (0-1) Wednesday, then travel up the road to take on archrival East Ridge (0-1) on Friday. Both games scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
Hastings 7, Park 1
Four Park pitchers gave up 11 hits to Hastings in a season-opening loss Saturday.
On the flip side, the Wolfpack had seven hits but couldn’t string much of anything together. Sam Janski went 2-for-4, but Josh Hatano had the only RBI of the game with a double in the first inning.
