Playing well at the start of the month, the Park Wolfpack boys’ basketball team ended with a decided February Funk.

The host Wolfpack lost a 59-42 decision to an average White Bear Lake team on Friday, Park’s third defeat in its last four games and second straight setback at home.

The game also tied for the lowing scoring game of the season for the Wolfpack, a dozen points off their offensive average.

The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 7-6 on the season and into fifth place in the Suburban East Conference.

Seventh-place White Bear Lake boosted its record to 6-7.

Park was competitive for the first half and trailed just 28-22 at the break. But the Wolfpack couldn’t stay with the visitors after halftime as White Bear Lake outscored Park 31-20 in the second half.

Junior forward Evan Bearth had a strong offensive outing with 21 points to lead the Wolfpack. But Park’s leading scorer Pharrel Payne was held to half his average, scoring just eight points and none of the other Park players could make up the slack.

The week wasn’t a total loss as Park avenged a season-opening defeat by beating Stillwater (2-11) on the road Tuesday, Feb. 23, winning 65-60.

Payne scored 23 points to lead Park. Bearth added 17 points, Jack Blumberg nine and Jayden Lane eight.

The next two games will be challenging for the Wolfpack as they travel to play at East Ridge (6-6) on Tuesday and then go to No. 10 Mounds View (12-1) Friday.
