Park boys soccer fit to be tied, again

In a soccer year that was fit to be tied, it somehow seemed normal for the Park Wolfpack to end the regular season with another tie.

Park tied visiting Irondale 1-1 Thursday to wrap up the regular season at home Thursday. It was Park’s seventh tie in 17 games this fall.

The Wolfpack (4-4-7) will play at Rosemount (4-6-3) Tuesday in the first round of the Secion 3AAA boys soccer tournament, starting at 5 p.m.

Park had numerous chances to win the game against Irondale in the closing minutes, but couldn’t quite connect. On back-to-back lays, one shot just missed left while a following shot the next minute hit the uprights.

“It’s hard to explain,” said Park head coach Andrew Bourgoine. “We struggled for the first half and it the first 15 minutes of the second half we struggled. And then all of a sudden it just clicked. We were just non-stop pressure for the last 15 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime. We probably had 10 amazing, grade-A chances and we missed all of them. It could have been four, five, six, seven, eight goals. It was non-stop.”

Michael Schult ended up scoring Park’s only goal of the game in the first half, with Vinny Lucio gaining the assist.

The Wolfpack finished 1-3-5 in the Suburban East Conference.

Irondale finishes its regular season 1-6-2 and 3-9-2.
