Fifth-ranked Hastings was too much to handle for the Park Wolfpack in the finals of the Section 3AAA wrestling team meet Friday at Woodbury High School.
The Raiders romped in the section finals, winning 58-11.
Fifth-ranked Zack Carr and Gunnar Mullen scored Park’s only wins against the always tough Raiders. Carr pinned Mark Svoboda in 4:28 at 145 pounds while Mullen won a 15-0 technical fall decision over Hunter Hoff of Hastings at 160 pounds.
In one of the best matches of the night, Blake Beissel of Hastings, top-ranked at 121 pounds, edged Park’s eighth-ranked Landen Brooks 5-0 at 127 pounds. In the 172-pound match, 10th ranked Creed Peterson of Hastings pinned Park’s Dylan Richardson, ranked 10th at 160.
Park advanced with a 65-12 win over East Ridge in the quarterfinals and then got past Eagan 40-27 in the semifinals.
Hastings, meanwhile, got a first-round bye and rolled Woodbury 51-12 in the other semifinal.
Park romped past East Ridge in the quarterfinals, scoring seven pins and a technical fall and winning three matches by forfeits. Dylan Richardson pinned his opponent in just 22 seconds to lead the way.
The second match was closer, but the Wolfpack prevailed by winning seven of the 13 matches. Brooks, Kyler Jubinal, Layne Frandrup and Jesse Wright scored Park pins, while Carr had a second back-to-back 15-0 technical fall win.
Next up for the Wolfpack is the individual section meet, held this season at Two Rivers High School in Mendota Heights on Saturday, Feb. 24.
