Junior Henry Joa was third (16:16.2) and senior Eli Firchau fourth (16:21.0) to lead Park’s boys' team in the Dewey Minnaert Invite Thursday at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park.

Junior Jana Hafiz paced the Park girls with a ninth-place finish in a time of 21:40.3.

Eagan won the boys team race with 73 points, followed by Minnehaha Academy, 77; East Ridge, 78; Osseo, 93; Hastings, 94; Park, 95; and St. Croix Prep, 180. Lliam Merrel of Burnsville won the individual title with a 15:55.8 finish.

Ben Paulsen finished 25th (17:40.1), Will Mann 31st (18:04.4), Liam Fleming 41st(18:59.4), Samual Craig 55th (20:58.5), and Marshall Bowe 59th (21:41.2).

“We’re very pleased with how the team performed today,” said Brad Narveson, cross country co-head coach. “We’re continuing to see improvements from meet to meet. Henry and Eli looked really strong again today, but I think I was most impressed with Will Mann. He really showed some fight today and it’s the closest he’s been to Ben all year. It’ll be a key to our season if he can always be that close to Ben because we feel Ben will continue to improve as well.”

East Ridge finished first in the girls' team race with 47 points, edging Osseo’s 48. Hastings was third with 75, Park fourth with 102, Minnehaha Academy fifth with 109, Cretin-Derham Hall sixth with 110 and Tartan seventh with 184.

Park’s Alli Devine finished 19th in 22:31.5, Kalin Randrup was 20th (22:36.8), Bella Walker 26th (23:43.7), Mya Albrecht 30th (24:02.3), Esme Edlund 32nd (24:13.7), Eva McMorrow 44th (26:56.2) and Natalie Long 47th (27:26.4)

“Jana competed from start to finish,” said Narveson. “She’s having a great start to the season and we’re seeing all the hard work she put in over the summer pay off.”

Park now has an open week, with the next meet the Osceola Invite in Osceola, Wisc., on Saturday, Sept. 20.

“It was a good learning experience for our team as well,” Narveson added. “The boys finished sixth but were two points out of fourth place. We talked about how much it means to beat that other guy at the end of the race … every place matters. Having that happen early in the season can help us as we gear up for the end of the season.”
