Park advanced to the girls’ lacrosse Section 3 semifinals and a match against sixth-ranked Rosemount with a gritty 7-5 win over visiting Woodbury Thursday, June 3.

The fourth-seeded Wolfpack will play at top-seeded Rosemount Tuesday, June 8 in a game starting at 7 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the Section 3 finals on June 10. Both teams are 10-4 on the season. Second-seeded Henry Sibley/Gentry plays third-seeded Cretin- Derham Hall in the other section semifinal.

Park will face an uphill battle against the Irish Tuesday. Rosemount dominated its two Suburban East Conference opponents this season, thrashing Woodbury 18-7 and East Ridge 19-1.

Park led Woodbury 6-4 at the half, but the second half turned into a defensive struggle. After the Royals closed to within two goals with less than six minutes to play, the Wolfpack went into ball-control mode and controlled the ball for the final 5:40 to secure the win.

“I think we were a little sloppy in the beginning and we were kind of making dumb mistakes but toward the end I think we really brought up our intensity and that’s why we were able to pull out the win,” said Hansen.

“We definitely have to get better at getting open for each other and supporting each other when the other team has the ball,” Hansen added, “We’ve just got to work as a team.”

Laurel Watters had three goals, while Shelby Hansen and Madeline Watters each put in two shots to pace the Wolfpack offensively. Madeline Watters and Shauna Miller each had an assist in the game.\ Ashley Penniman got the win in goal.

It was Park’s fifth straight win. The Wolfpack have upped their games since being 5-4 at midseason.
