Park girls score huge road win

After suffering a tough road loss at Cretin-Derham Hall Tuesday, the Park Wolfpack bounced back with a huge road win Friday, edging host Stillwater 61-60.

Freshman forward Mesa Jameson had a monster game to lead the Wolfpack, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

It was Park’s fourth win of the season, matching the team’s victory total all of last season.

“We had a very exciting win at Stillwater,” said Park head coach Stephanie Tolkinen. “This was a true Team win -- our kids were in it the whole time mentally and physically. They stuck to the game plan and most importantly stayed together.”

Stillwater led 34-24 at the half, but Park rallied to outscore the hosts 37-26 after the break.

“We were down by 10 at halftime and came out and chipped away little by little,” Tolkinen explained. “We struggled a bit with our regular zone offense, so we went to a few quick hitters we like to run. We had success with that strategy and the girls were making plays and making shots. Our ability to break their press helped us to get into our offense and execute. I think our defense, rebounding and shooting was all improved from Tuesday's game. I am really proud of the determination the girls showed. It was a very fun win. Now we need to build on it next week. “

Johnson (26 points) and junior guard Graycie Smith (21 points) combined to score 47 of Park’s 61 points Friday.

Park improved to 2-2 in the Suburban East Conference and 4-2 on the season. Stillwater lost for the first time in league play, falling to 3-1 in the SEC and 5-2 overall.
