The home ice is finally working for the Park Wolfpack.
After struggling at home the early part of the season, going 0-3-1 in their first four home games, the Wolfpack have now won three straight at Cottage Grove Ice Arena, including back-to-back shutouts.
Park skated to a 1-0 win over visiting East Ridge Saturday afternoon, snapping a two-game losing streak and getting revenge for an earlier 2-1 loss to the Raptors.
Junior goalie Alayna Adamez had another perfect outing, stopping all 24 East Ridge shots.
After a scoreless first period, Park senior forward Lauren Osland connected on a power play tip-in goal with assists from Maleah McMorrow and Alaina Post at 4:21 in the second period. That would be all the scoring the Wolfpack needed.
“(We) played three periods of hockey,” said head coach Bay Shock. “I just thought we came at them and got that goal, that tip-in goal and we played our game. In their zone, forechecking hard, we had players moving, goalie played obviously a great game with her second shutout.
Asked the difference between the first and second games against East Ridge, Shock said, “Our tenacity, or drive this time. You know it was a similar game, a 2-1 game last time but we didn’t go at them and you know what we got that goal in the second and just kept going.”
Park outshot the Raptors 24-20.
The win moved Park’s record to 6-7-1 in the Suburban East Conference and to 10-9-2 on the season so far. Park currently stands sixth in the SEC with two conference games to go. East Ridge slid to 7-6 in the conference and 11-10 overall.
Park hosts Cretin-Derham Hall (11-6-3, 8-3-3) Saturday and then plays a non-conference contest at St. Paul/Two Rivers (6-15) Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the next to last week of the regular season.
Stillwater 4, Park 3 (OT)
Park has played four 4-3 game this season, winning three of them, but Tuesday broke the streak as the host Stillwater Ponies took a 4-3 decision in overtime over the visiting Wolfpack.
Skating at St. Croix Rec Center, Stillwater took a 3-1 lead after two periods, but Park rallied to tie the game with a pair of goals in the third period and send it into overtime.
It was Park’s second overtime in the last three games, only this time it was the opponent who came out on top.
Natalie Post scored for Park in the first period and that was ti for the Wolfpack until early in the third when Lauren Osland connected on an even strength goal with an assist from Stella Daly. Addie Corkish added an even strength goal at 13:11 to tie the game at 3-all and that’s where it stood the rest of regulation.
Stillwater’s Emam Chard then put in the game winner at 6:31 of the overtime period.
Alayna Adamez went the distance in goal again for the Wolfpack, stopping 13 of 17 shots for a .765 percentage.
