Boys basketball goes 1-1 in first week

Park got the basketball season off to a good start in the first week of play, losing a competitive game to always strong Park Center Thursday, then coming back with an impressive win over Osseo on Saturday.

Playing in the Southside Showcase at Minnehaha Academy Saturday, Park scored a 70-59 victory over Osseo.

Park led by as many at 15 points against Osseo.

“We had command of the game the entire time,” said Park head coach Isaiah Wallfred. “Keon (Moody) and Leo (Eiden-Giel) led us defensively and we really passed the ball well. We also had a balanced scoring attack.”

Miskir Esayas led the Wolfpack scoring with 20 points and Anthony Giadyu had 17. Brandon Bihm scored 18 with 12 points coming in the second half to help seal the game. Aaron Sandin scored 8 and Leo Eiden-Giel 5.

Park Center 81, Park 70

Park gave perennial power Park Center a battle in the season opener, before falling 81-70 Thursday in the boys' basketball season opener.

“(We) held our own on the road against the No. 6 in the state, Park Center, only losing by 11,” said Wallfred. “Our defense was solid, but we couldn't get a rebound.”

Anthony Giadyu led Park with 27 points.

Park (1-1) hosts Stillwater (2-0) in its home opener Friday, Dec. 13, with a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Girls' hockey team loses two one-goal games.

Park had a tough week in girls hockey losing a pair of one-goal decisions in Suburban East Conference play.

Park fell at Forest Lake Saturday by a 3-2 score at Cottage Grove Ice Arena. The Wolfpack led 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two btu gave up three goals in the final period to the visiting Rangers.

Lauren Osland got Park on the scoreboard with a first-period goal and Stella Daly made it a 2-0 Park lead in the second.

Forest Lake then put in three goals in a little over six minutes in the third to claim the victory.

Park goalie Alayna Adamez stopped 23 of 26 Forest Lake shots. The Wolfpack outshot Forest Lake 42-26.

Park slipped to 3-4 in the conference and 3-5-1 on the season, falling to just 1-4-1 on their home ice this season.

The Wolfpack play a non-conference contest at South St. Paul Friday.

East Ridge 2, Park 1

The visiting Wolfpack dropped a 2-1 decision vs, rival East Ridge Tuesday at the HealthEast Sports Center.

Lauren Osland scored on an even strength goal at 9:50 in the first period to get the Wolfpack off to a 1-0 lead. But East Ridge scored one goal in each of the next two periods to take the advantage. Neither team could manager a score in the third.

Park had 35 shots on goal to 34 for the Raptors.

Wolfpack goalie Alayna Adamez stopped 22 of 34 East Ridge shots for a .971 success rate.
