Boys hockey team gets a 1-1 split

Four different Park players put the puck in the back of the net as the Wolfpack bounced back from a loss to Stillwater with a win over Mounds View Saturday.

Playing at TCO Sports Garden in Vadnais Heights, Park scored a 4-2 win after a tough loss to Stillwater two days before.

Gavin Moss, Owen Corkish, Max Kaplan and Drew Schumacher each scored a goal for the Wolfpack. Caden Schwartz had three assists for Park, Kaplan, Luke Dahlstrom, Corkish, Michael DeStasio and Dand also earned assists.

Park trailed 1-0 after the first period but scored two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Mounds View knotted the game at two going into the third period. Kaplan gave Park a 3-2 lead and then Schumacher put in an empty net score for the final margin.

Aidan Miller went the distance in the met, stopping 14 of 16 Mounds View shots for an ,875 success rate.

Park improved to 2-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 3-2 on the season. Mounds View dropped to 0-5 in the conference and 1-7 overall.

The Wolfpack hosts Eagan Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena, then plays at Holy Family Saturday, both games with 7 p.m. starts.

Stillwater 10, Park 2

Fifth-ranked Stillwater skated to a 10-2 win over the Park Wolfpack in Suburban East Conference hockey Thursday evening at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

Stillwater led 3-0 after the first period, then poured it on with a 6-2 edge in the second. The visiting Ponies led 8-0 before the Wolfpack got on the scoreboard.

Owen Corkish and Gavin Moss put in back-to-back goals midway through the second period. Luke Dahlstrom had two assists, Max Kaplan and Caden Schwartz one each.

Stillwater outshot Park 33-28.

The league-leading Ponies improved to 3-0 in the SEC and 6-0 overall. Park fell to 1-1 in the conference and 2-2 on the season.

Girls' hockey team drops two games

Park dropped its fourth straight contest in girls' hockey Friday, losing a non-conference contest 4-1 to South St. Paul at Doug Woog Arena.

The Wolfpack again had trouble finding the back of the net, scoring just one goal for the third time on four games.

South St. Paul improved to 7-4 on the season.

Josie Leonard had Park’s only goal, scoring at the 6;29 mark of the second period on a power play tally. Keira Brennan earned the assist.

Goalie Alayna Adamez stopped 25 of 29 South St. Paul shots.

Cretin-Derham Hall 5, Park 1

Host Cretin-Derham Hall skated past Park 5-1 at Highland Ice Arena Tuesday.

The game was tied 1-all after one period but Cretin added two goals in both the second and third to take the victory.

Stella Daly had Park’s only goal in the game on an even strength tally in the first period, assisted by Kyra Stofer.

Park plays at Hastings in another non-conference contest on Saturday, Dec. 21, starting at noon.

Payne helps team knock off No. 11 Purdue

Former Park High basketball star Pharrel Payne, now playing for the Texas A&M Aggies, had one of his best games of the season in a 70-66 win over No. 11 Purdue Dec. 14.

A junior forward, Payne scored 16 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, blocked two shots and had an assist in the victory. He went 6-for-6 from the field and his 24 minutes played tied a season high.

Payne played his first two seasons with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers before transferring to Texas A&M this season.

For the season Payne is averaging 7.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks a game.

Texas A&M improved to 9-2 with the win.
