Park seniors Jordyn Dahling and Gavin Stauffer have been selected to represent the school in the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award program for Region 3AA.
Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics (Triple "A") Award is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award goes to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and who participate in league-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Park’s female recipient this year is Jordyn Dahling. Dahling is a letter winner in both soccer and lacrosse and served as a captain in soccer. She is a section leader in the Concert Choir and sings in the Bella Voce ensemble. Dahling is a member of the math team and has a GPA of 4.3. She plans to study computer science at the University of Minnesota-Duluth next year.
Gavin Stauffer is Park’s male winner. Gavin earned All-Conference honors in both cross country and track and was a captain and two-time state meet participant in cross country. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors in band while also receiving best of site and superior ratings at region contests. Stauffer also served as the drum major of the marching band. He earned Academic All-State honors and has a 4.0 GPA. He will attend St. Olaf College to study music education and run cross country and track.
Boys' basketball team goes 1-1
Host Woodbury took a 71-65 decision from Park Friday in Suburban East Conference boys' basketball.
The Royals led 33-26 at the break. Park outscored Woodbury 39-38 after intermission but couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
Park dropped to 2-5 in the SEC and 6-7 on the season. Woodbury went to 4-3 in the conference and 6-8 this winter.
Senior guard Anthony Giadyu scored 19 points to lead the Wolfpack. Junor forward Aaron Sandin added 14, Mac Maluski and Brandon Bihm had 9 points each and Justin Ebbers 8. Muad Abdulrahim led Woodbury with 27.
Park hosts Mounds View (10-3, 5-2) on Friday, starting at 7 p.m., then entertains St. Paul Como Park (5-6) in a non-conference contest on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
Park 84, Roseville 82
Park won its second straight thriller Wednesday, this time scoring an 84-82 thriller over visiting Roseville in Suburban East Conference boys' basketball.
The two-point win came after a four-point victory over Columbia Heights Saturday in the Southside Showcase at Minnehaha Academy.
