Girls basketball goes 2-1 on the week
After two lopsided wins, Park was brought back down ti earth in a 58-47 loss at Mounds View Friday night in Suburban East Conference girls basketball.
Park entered Friday’s game on the heels of three straight wins, beating Hastings (41-40), Irondale (64-35) and North St. Paul (62-22). But the host Mustangs proved too much for the Wolfpack.
Mounds View took a decisive 29-20 halftime lead and then made it stand up in a more even second half.
Malaya Ramirez led Park with 13 points, while Olivia Czarnota and Graycie Smith each scored 11 points.
Now 1-7 in the Suburban East Conference and 5-8 overall, Park hosts conference-leading and 19th-ranked East Ridge (7-0. 12-3) Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m.
Park 62, North St. Paul 22
The Wolfpack had their most lopsided win of the season Wednesday, Jan. 7, with a 40-point victory at North St. Paul.
Park 64, Irondale 35
Park scored one of its largest wins of the winter with a 29-point road win at Irondale Tuesday, winning 64-35.
The Wolfpack won with extremely balanced scoring. Olivia Czarnota led with 11 points, Tea Alvarenga had 10, Malaya Ramirez 9, Ramsey Nelson and Graycie Smith 8 each, Raimee Ashfaq and Mariah Nasby 6 apiece.
Park led 36-18 at the half and outscored the hosts 28-17 after intermission.
It was Park’s first conference win of the season.
Thunderbolts win again
The South Washington County Thunderbolts scored a 16-9 win at Shakopee/Chanhassen/Chaska/Prior Lake Wednesday afternoon.
With the win the Thunderbolts improved to 3-1 on the season. Next up for the team is a game at Dakota United on Monday.
Girls' hockey team drops SEC pair
Visiting Roseville/Mahtomedi skated to a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon over the Park Wolfpack in Suburban East Conference girls' hockey.
Roseville led 1-0 after one, 2-0 after two periods and 3-0 early in the third period on an empty net goal Saturday before the Wolfpack finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by Alaina Post at the 16:25 mark of the third.
Park goalie Hailey Garcia stopped 35 of 37 shots.
The Wolfpack slipped to 3-9 in the SEC and 7-11 on the season. Roseville went to 4-8-1 in the conference and 9-9-1 overall.
Park plays Woodbury Saturday at M Health Fairview Sports Center, starting at 7 p.m.
East Ridge 4, Park 2
The Raptors took a 4-2 decision at Cottage Grove Ice Arena Thursday.
East Ridge led 1-0 after one, 2-1 after two periods and 4-1 late in the third. Park’s Stella Daly had both goals for the Wolfpack. Maleah McMorrow had two assists and Alaine Post one.
Alayna Adamez got the start in goal and stopped 39 of 42 shots. Park managed just 16 shots on goal in the game.
Wrestling team wins SEC pair
Park’s Wolfpack wrestled to a pair of Suburban East Conference wrestling wins Thursday, pinning host East Ridge 51-21 and downing Cretin-Derham Hall 39-32.
Park wrestles Thursday at Ellsworth, WI., then hosts Roseville and Eagan Thursday, Jan. 15, in its first home meet of the season.
