Girls' basketball goes 1-1 on the week
Visiting Roseville used a big first half to take a 70-36 decision from the host Park Wolfpack in conference girls basketball Thursday a Cottage Grove.
Roseville led 43-18 at the half, then outscored Park 27-18 after the break.
Olivia Czarnota had 16 points and Raimee Ashfaq 11 for the Wolfpack.
Park (7-13 on the season, 2-12 in the SEC) plays a non-conference game at Eastview (14-5) Wednesday, then goes to White Bear Lake (7-14, 4-9) on Friday.
Park 46, Stillwater 40
The Wolfpack outscored host Stillwater 30-24 in the second half to win in Suburban East Conference girls basketball Tuesday.
It was Park’s second straight victory after five consecutive defeats and also avenged a 39-32 defeated to the Ponies back on Dec. 9 at Cottage Grove.
Olivia Czarnota scored 13 points to pace Park, while Raimee Ashfaq added 10, Malaya Ramiez and Graycie Smith 9 each.
Girls' hockey closes regular season strong
After eight straight losses where the Wolfpack scored only 10 goals, the Park Wolfpack got its offense going in winning two or three games last week and a close 6-5 loss in the other.
Park dropped a 6-5 decision to White Bear Lake on Tuesday then came back with a 3-2 win over Western Wisconsin on Thursday and a 7-1 thrashing of South St. Paul on Saturday in the regular season finale.
The Wolfpack jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period against the Packers and breezed to the easy win. Park led 7-1 after two periods.
Senior forward Avery Tait’s two goals led the Wolfpack offensively. Ava Taschner, Alaine Post, Nora Thurmes, Addie Corkish and Lauren Tait each scored for Park. Stella Daly had two assists, Keria Brennan and Corkish one each.
Park’s seven goals against South St. Paul was the team’s most this season.
Senior Alayna Adamez stopped 17 of 18 shots in goal to finish with a .944 success rate in the win.
Seventh-seeded Park (9-16) plays second-seeded Rosemount (11-12) at the Rosemount Community Center Wednesday in a Class 2A, Section 3 quarterfinal, starting at 7 p.m.
Park 3, Western Wisconsin 2
Junior forward Addie Corkish scored twice to lead the Wolfpack to a 3-2 non-conference win over host Western Wisconsin Thursday at Somerset Ice Arena.
Park led 2-1 after two periods on goals by Alaina Post and Corkish. Corkish then got what turned out to be the game winner at 5:20 in the third period, off an assist by Post. Corkish, Ava Taschner, Keria Brennan and Maleah McMorrow had assists for the Wolfpack.
Junior Gabriella Stepka got the goaltending win, stopping 21 of 23 shots (.913).
White Bear Lake 6, Park 5
Visiting White Bear Lake jumped out to a 4-0 lead, led 4-2 after one period and hung on for a 6-5 win over the host Park Wolfpack Tuesday in Suburban East Conference girls' hockey.
Park tied the game at 4-all in the second period but the Bears won the decisive third period 2-1.
Stella Daly, Lauren Tait, Kendall Schumacher and Alaina Psot scored for the Wolfpack. The five goals scored were a season high for Park. Post, Ava Taschner, Madison Milosevich had assists for Park.
Hailey Garcia stopped 26 of 32 shots in goal.
Wallace, divers lead Park swim and dive team
Paul Wallace won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.97 and the Park divers swept the top three spots to highlight a dual meet Thursday at Roseville.
John Jaso won the diving with a score of 208.30, Ethyn Schilling was second with a 198.60 and Carter Darling third at 185.00.
Will Mann was fourth in the 200 (2:13.91), Damion Charpentier third in the 200 IM (2:18.92) and third in the 100 freestyle (55.63), Tyler Cracauer finished fourth in the 50 (26.77), Lalee Yang third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.04) and Parker Stueber was third in the 500 (5:38.46). Cracauer had a time of 1:04.09 I the backstroke.
In the relays Park was third in the 200-yard medley (Cracauer, Wallace, Yang, Zachary Wood, 1:53.91), third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Wallace, Wood, Cracauer, Charpentier, 1:44.58) and clocked a time of 3:56.27 in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the quartet of Wood, Stueber, Yang and Charpentier.
Roseville won the meet 100-78.
Park hosts Mounds View Thursday at Cottage Grove Middle School pool.
Park gymnastics team wins again
Park’s Ashley Davis swept all five events to lead the Wolfpack to victory over visiting Cretin-Derham Hall in girls gymnastics Thursday.
Davis (36.275) and Makayla Bollman (33.625) finished first and second in the all-around.
Davis won the vault (9.4), bars (8.625), beam (9.05) and floor (9.2) on her way to the all-around title.
Bollman was third on the vault (8.45), second on bars (8.45), seventh in beam (7.75) and second on floor (8.975).
The Wolfpack went to 5-2 in Suburban East Conference dual meets with a 134.8 to 126.525 win over the Raiders in the team competition.
Natalie Peters of Park was sixth in the all-around with a score of 23.85. Audrey Reimers was eighth (16.15), Luella Erling ninth (15.85) and Charlotte faber 10th (8.4).
Reimers was fourth on vault (8.4), Peters fifth (8.3) and Kadence Glid 10th (8.0).
On bars it was Erling fourth (7.875), Peters fifth (7.25) and Isabelle Boyd 10th (6.475).
Park’s Faber was second on beam (8.4), Eleanor Thompson fourth (8.05) and Reimers sixth (7.75).
The Wolfpack wrapped up on the floor with Alice Wood finishing fifth (8.325), Peters sixth (8.3) and Erling seventh (7.975).
Park hosts gymnastics rival East Ridge in the final meet of the regular season Thursday, starting at 6 p.m.
