Balanced scoring keys boys basketball win

Aaron Sandin scored 16 points and Carter Cooms 12 to lead Park to a 67-57 win at Mounds View in boys basketball Saturday night.

The two teams were tied at 27-all at intermission but the Wolfpack won the second half 40-30.

The Wolfpack had eight players score. After Sandin and Cooms, Payne had 9, Griffin Sell had 8, Brandon Bihm and Justin Ebbers 7 each and Caleb Sweet 6.

The win avenged a 61-52 loss to Mounds View earlier this season.

Park improved to 6-8 in the Suburban East Conference and 10-12 on the season.

Mounds View dipped to 6-8 and 14-8.

Irondale 54, Park 50

Host Irondale took a tight 54-50 decision at home Wednesday night over the visiting Park Wolfpack.

Park slipped to 5-8 in the Suburban East Conference and 9-12 on the season. Irondale improved to 6-7 in the SEC and 8-13 overall.

The Wolfpack plays three road games to end the regular season: at Forest Lake (8-14, 4-10) Friday, then at No. 7 Cretin-Derham Hall (17-5, 13-1) Tuesday and finishing at Woodbury (8-14, 5-9) on Friday, Feb. 27.
 
 

Boys' hockey team drops SEC pair

Host East Ridge scored the game winner 49 seconds into overtime to take a 3-2 win over Park at Cottage Grove Ice Arena Saturday evening in the final game of the regular season.

Park led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after two. But the Raptors tied the game midway through the second period and then won it on a power play goal by Wrex Walz in overtime.

East Ridge also swept the season series, winning 5-1 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Gavin Sand and Owen Mordorski scored Park’s two goals. Brady Siemer, Nick Bailey and Sand had assists.

Park senior goalie Henry Voss stopped 30 of 33 East Ridge shots for a .909 success rate.

Next up for the Wolfpack is the section quarterfinals at the high seed.

Cretin-Derham Hall 4, Park 2

Visiting Cretin-Derham Hall broke away from a 2-all tie with goals in the second and third period to take a 4-2 decision from Park Tuesday in Suburban East Conference boys' hockey.

Chase Nadler gave the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead early in the first. Cretin then scored twice before Nick Bailey tied the game at 15:57 in the first off an assist from Brady Siemer.

The Raiders then scored one in the second period and another midway through the third for a 4-2 edge.

Henry Voss turned back 4 of 27 Cretin shots in the game.

Kayden Hoberg and Riley Koch also had assists for the Wolfpack.
