Moss’s hat trick powers Park past East Ridge
Gavin Moss turned a hat trick and Park made it four straight wins over archrival East Ridge in a 4-1 win over the host Raptors Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
Moss scored back-to-back goals in the second period and Park skated to a 2-0 lead. Boston Weidner made it a 3-0 game just 1:27 into the third. East Ridge finally got on the board with a goal by Brady Knutsen at the 9:40 mark, but Moss powered in his third goal with 16:17 to close the door on the Raptors.
“I love rivalry games and both teams seem to appreciate the rivalry,” said Park head coach Jay Moser. “Both teams played hard and gritty which made for a very entertaining contest. We played well for three periods, put a lot of pucks on their net while limiting their scoring chances … and the ones we gave up Aidan Miller did his job to not allow them to get any momentum.”
The victory brought Park back to even at 5-5 in the Suburban East Conference and 15-7 on the season, already Park’s most season wins in many years. It was also Park’s fourth straight victory.
East Ridge slipped to 4-5 in the SEC and 10-8-1.
Park won the first game between the two rivals back on Dec. 15, 5-1 and the Wolfpack swept the 2011-22 series a year ago.
Park plays at Holy Family (14-5) at the Victoria Recreation Center Thursday in a non-conference contest.
Park swimmers sink Cretin-Derham Hall Jack Schweigert, Mason Darling, Mitchell LeMay all had a hand in three victories as the Wolfpack swimmers mixed it up Thursday in a win over Cretin-Derham Hall at St. Kate’s.
Several swimmers stretched their wings in other than their regular races, but Park still dominated the meet, winning 111-71.
And while the swimmers took a break from doing their thing, Park’s Ethyn Schilling win the 1-meter diving and broke the Park Middle School record for diving with a score of 174.85.
Park won all three relays. In the 200-yard medley relay the team of Jack Schweigert, Mitchell LeMay, Mason Darling and Parker Jeseritz finished first in 1:52.03. Park’s Darling, Jack Schweigert, Jeseritz and LeMay won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.58. In the 400-yard freestyle relay it was Park’s Logan Schweigert, Jackson Harre, Luke Dockendorf and Damion Charpentier winning in 3:54.27.
Logan Schweigert finished first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:31.42 and was second in the 200-yard IM in 2:17.99.
Darling had the best time in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.37) and was second in the butterfly in 58.30.
LeMay took a turn in the 100-yard breaststroke and easily won, finishing in 1:07.15.
Jack Schweigert won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.72 and placed third in the 50yard freestyle in 25.26.

Girls hockey team ties
in regular-season finale
Park 2, Dodge County 2 The visitors Park wolfpack skated to a 2-2 draw with Dodge County Friday night at Dodge County Ice Arena.
Dodge County scored first, then Park got the equalizer in the second period on a power play goal by Taylar Nadler.
Dodge County took a 2-1 lead midway through the third period but Josie Leonard scored for the Wolfpack a minute and a half later to tie the game at 2-all. Neither team could score the rest of the third or in overtime.
Cassidy Moen and Maggie Jensen recorded assists for Park.
Park ends the regular season 9-14-2. The Wolfpack were 4-11-1 in the Suburban East Conference, finishing seventh.
The Wolfpack drew the No. 5 seed in the Section 3AA quarterfinals and will play fourth-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall at Charles M. Schulz Highland Arena Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m. Park split two games with the Raiders this season, winning the first 4-3 and losing the second 3-0.
Metro 5, Park 0 A struggling Park team dropped a 5-0 non-conference decision in girls’ hockey Tuesday to Metro-South.
It was Park’s fourth straight loss and put the Wolfpack at 9-14-1 on the season.
Metro South scored twice in the first period and then added two more scores in the second to take a commanding 4-0 lead. East Ridge wins, but Park soars in gymnastics Host and 11th-ranked East Ridge won the meet, but Park vaulted to its best score of the season in girls’ gymnastics Thursday at East Ridge The Raptors scored a whopping 144.625 to take first in the team race. Park, ranked 23rd in Class AA as of Jan. 30, was second with a season-high score of 139.750.
East Ridge star Laney Schwellenbach finished first in each event to easily take the all-around crown with 38.275 points.
Park’s Ashley Davis was third in the all-around (35.850), Emily Dahlstrom fourth (35.6), Rainna Jameson seventh (26.250, Clara Opichka ninth (24.0) and Natalya Rugel 10th (17.525).
Davis finished second on the bars with a score of 8.925. Jameson was fifth (8.550), Dahlstrom eight (8.225), Makayla Bollman ninth (8.175) and Opichka 10th (7.650).
Dahlstrom took second on the beam with a 9.0 score. Davis was third (8.425), Opichka finished ninth (8.1) and Bollman 10th (7.875).
On the floor, Dahlstrom led the Park gymnasts with a score of 9.375, finishing third. Davis was fifth (9.715), Jameson eighth (8.650), Opichka ninth (8.250) and Ruby Igl 10th (8.225).
Rugel was third on the vault (9.1), Jameson fourth (9.050), Dahlstrom sixth (9.0) and Davis seventh (8.9).
Park wraps up the regular season with a home meet against Stillwater Thursday, starting at 6 p.m.
Girls get two SEC wins, fall at Rosemount Rosemount 57, Park 21 The host Irish dominated this Saturday night contest, holding Park to a season-low offensive output in a 57-21 non-conference girls basketball game.
Rosemount led 33-12 at the break and outscored Park 24-9 in the second half.
No Park player reach double figures in scoring. Emma Ambroz eld the offense with 8 points and Tori Henderson had 6.
Park is now 8-11 on the season and 5-8 in the Suburban East Conference. Rosemount improved to 15-4 on the season.
The Wolfpack host Eastview (9-9) in a non-conference contest Wednesday, then travels to Mounds View (109, 5-8) for a Friday game.
Park 53, Cretin-Derham Hall 35 Tori Henderson scored 16 points and Emma Ambroz a season-high 13 as Park dusted the host Cretin-Derham Hall 53-36 in St. Paul Thursday.
Park held the Raiders to just 14 points in the first half, leading 22-14 at the break.
Bryleigh Dana had 8 points for Park, Morgan Leick and Sydnee Nelson had 6 each.
Park moved to 5-8 in the Suburban East Conference, one game ahead of Cretin-Derham Hall who dropped to 4-9.
Park 55, Mounds View 47 Park snapped a fivegame losing streak with a much-needed 55-47 Suburban East Conference victory over visiting Mounds View in girls’ basketball Tuesday evening.
Senior forward Bryleigh Dana led the Park offense with 18 points. Junior guard Tori Henderson scored 15 and senior guard Sydnee Nelson had 14.
Mounds View led 26-25 at the half but the Wolfpack outscored the visitors 30-21 in the second period.
Park improved its record to 4-8 in the conference and 7-10 on the season.
Mounds View slipped to 4-8 in the SEC and 8-9 overall.
