Park hockey team advances to finals before falling Park advanced to the finals of the Heritage Holiday Classic at the Heritage Sports Center in Duluth Thursday, Dec. 29 but couldn’t stick with tournament champion Cloquet- Esko-Carlton in a 5-2 loss.

Unlike the first two games of the tournament where the Wolfpack scored early and often, Park failed to get off to a fast start. Cloquet-Esko- Carlton scored the game’s first three goals and led 3-0 after the first period.

Park closed to 3-1 on a Colton Porter power play goal at the 1:16 mark. But Cloquet regained a threegoal advantage two minutes later.

Jackson Rudh of the Wolfpack scored just 1:32 into the third period to cut the led to 4-2 but that was a close as the Wolfpack could get.

Rudh, Own Corkish and Gavin Moss had assists for Park.

Cloquet outshot the Wolfpack 28-15. Park’s Alex Harden stopped 24 of 28 shots for an .857 success rate.

Park slipped to 9-3 on the season. Cloquet improved its record to 6-2.

The Wolfpack return to the ice with a home match against Eastview (6-2) in a non-conference contest Thursday, Jan. 5.

Park 6, Irondale 1

Adam King scored a hat trick and the Wolfpack advanced to the Heritage Hockey Classic finals with a convincing 6-1 win over Irondale Wednesday, Dec. 28 in the tournament semifinals.

King had a goal in each of the periods, giving him six scores on the season so far.

Gavin Moss, Owen Corkish and Colton Porter also scored the streaking Wolfpack. Jackson Rudh and Boston Weidner had two assist each. Adding single assists were Adam Friemann, Mac Wohnoutka, Tyler Schwartz, Max Kaplan and Owen Corkish.

The Wolfpack hammered Irondale on the offense end, outshooting their foes 5511.

Alex Hardin picked up the win in the net, stopping 10 of 11 shots.

Park improved to 9-2 on the season with the non-conference win.

Park once again got off to a hot start, outscoring Irondale 3-0 in the opening period. The Wolfpack made it a 5-0 lead after two periods of play.

Park 4, Owatonna 1

Gavin Moss, Tyler Schwartz and Jackson Rudh all powered in first=period goals to jump start the Park Wolfpack to a 3-0 lead en route to a 4-1 win over Owatonna Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Heritage Hockey Classic at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

Mac Wohnoutka added another Park goal in the second period. Park outshot Owatonna 35-22.

Park held Owatonna (3-4) scoreless in the second and third periods. Goalie Aiden Miller stopped 21 of 22 Owatonna shots for a .955 success rate.

Owen Corkish, Rudh, Colton Porter, Caden Schwartz and Moss all recorded assists for the Wolfpack.

Wrestlers place sixth at Eau Claire duals Park wrestlers finished sixth in the 16-team Eau Claire Holiday Duals Thursday at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

In pool play, Park defeated Eau Claire Memorial 65-18 and Durand 78-6, but lost to Rocori 50-23.

In the tournament semifinals the Wolfpack outwrestled Maple Grover 43-30/ In the fifth-place match, Plainview-Elgin-Millville edged Park 45-33.

Simley defeated Cambridge- Isanti 59-13 to win the tournament team title.

Eighth grader Alaina Post scored twice and six different Park players put the puck in the net as the Wolfpack rolled. Joining Post in powering home goals were Molly Villas, Maggie Jensen, Lauren Osland, Avery Tait and Keira Brennan.

Villas had the only goal of the first period/ Post then slammed in a pair in the second to lift Park to a 3-1 lead after two. The third period was all Park as the Wolfpack dominated the period by a 4-0 count.

Park junior goalie Tori Stepka stopped 10 of 11 shots for a .909 winning percentage. The Wolfpack outshot Princeton by a whopping 52-11.

The Wolfpack dropped a pair of games Thursday and Friday in the tournament’s first two rounds, falling to Fergus Falls 3-1 on Thursday, then lost a 2-1 squeaker to Robbinsdale Armstrong/ Cooper on Friday.

Josie Leonard scored Park’s only goal against Fergus Falls. Natalie Post had the assist.

The wolfpack took a 1-0 lead against Robbinsdale Armstrong on a second-period goal by Lauren Osland. Natalie Post got the assist again.

But Robbinsdale Armstrong scored twice in the third period to earn the win.

Park (2-5, 7-7) skates against Roseville/Mahtomedi at Roseville Ice arena Saturday, Jan. 7.
