Wrestlers go 1-1 at Coon Rapids duals

Park wrestlers went 1-1 in the Board Hyland duals Saturday at Coon Rapids, losing to Annandale-Maple Lake 48-18 in round one, then topping host Coon Rapids in round two, 43-27. The meet attracted some of the best teams in Minnesota, including No.2 Hastings and No. 11 Eden Prairie. Annandale-Maple Lake is ranked No. 10 in Class AA.

Wyatt Murphy (120), Zach Carr (126), Kyler Jubinal (132), Joey Chilton (138) and Sam Lankow (182) all had falls for the Wolfpack against Coon Rapids.

Landon Brooks (113) and Gunnar Mullen (152) had falls against Annandale/ Maple Lake. Lankow (182) and Zach Carr scored decisions.

Mullen, ranked sixth at 152, had a tough match against Carter Skradski of Coon Rapids, losing 14-13. He responded with a pin in 4:43 against Jack Nilson of Annandale in the second round.

Alex Carr, fifth-ranked at 182, had a 5-2 decision against Kenny Wells of Coon Rapids in round one, then lost a 5-2 decision to Annandale’s Riley Hall at 195.

Stillwater took a 2-0 lead after the first period. Park’s Molly Villas scored just 1:11 into the second period on a power play, with assists by Alaina Post and Sam Miller.

But that was it for the Wolfpack’s offense. Stillwater scored twice more in the second and added two more goals in the third.

Stillwater outshot Park 59-11 in the game. Park goalie Tori Stepka stopped 53 of 59 shots for an .898 save percentage.

Park slipped to 1-3 in the Suburban East Conference and 3-3 on the season. Stillwater improved to a perfect 4-0 in the league and 4-2 on the season.

Park hosts Forest Lake (03, 1-4) Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Dance team sixth at Woodbury The Park High dance team took sixth place in an eight-team Suburban East Conference meet Saturday at Woodbury.

Competing in the high kick category, Park scored 18 points.

Forest Lake won the meet with 3 points, followed by: 2, Mounds View, 8; 3, Roseville, 9; 4, Cretin-Derham Hall, 10; 5, Stillwater, 15; 6. Park, 18; 7, Woodbury, 21; and 8, Irondale, 24.

Park hosts a conference meet Friday, Dec. 9, starting at 7 p.m. in the main gym.

Davis, Jameson lead Park gymnasts Park’s Rainna Jameson scored a 9.1 to win the vault and Ashley Davis was third in the all-around to lead the Wolfpack gymnasts to a second-place team finish in the White Bear Lake Invitational Saturday.

Park had three athletes finish in the top seven in the all-around. Davis was third in the all-around with a score of 33.650. Emily Dahlstrom was sixth with a 33.050 and Jameson was seventh with a 32.750.

Davis led Park scorers in the vault, bars and floor as well as the all-around.

In the floor exercise, Davis scored an 8.850 to finish second. Makayla Bollman was fourth with a score of 8.7. Dahlstrom was eight with an 8.4, Natalya Rugel was 12th with an 8.3 and Jameson 23rd with an 8.0.

Davis was 10th on the vault with an 8.650, Dahlstrom was 14th (8.550) and Ashley Lentz was 26th (8.2). On the bars, Davis led Park with a seventh-place finish with a score of 7.7. Dahlstrom had a 7.6 in the event, Jameson a 7.550, Makayla Bollman a 7.300 and Ruby Igl a 7.2.

Igl (8.550), Dahlstrom (8.500) and Davis (8.450) went fifth, sixth and seventh on the beam. Jameson was 10th (8.1) and Bollman had a 7.4.

Park was second in the team event with a score of 132.500. Rogers finished first in the seven-team meet with a score of 134.100. Chicago Lakes was third at 131.050, White Bear Lake fourth at 127.600, Alexandria fifth at 126.150, Mounds View/Irondale sixth at 125.450 and St. Louis Park seventh at 123,950.

The Wolfpack gymnasts compete at Roseville Thursday.
