Park boys lacrosse loses first game

Park dropped a 14-6 non-conference decision to host Hastings at McNamara Stadium in boys lacrosse Monday evening.

It was the first loss of the season for the Wolfpack, who slipped to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Suburban East Conference.

Park will host Mounds View (0-2, 0-3) Wednesday, then pay at Cretin-Derham Hall (1-0, 1-1) Friday, April 29.

Park 11, Forrest Lake 1

Park opened the 2022 boys lacrosse season with an impressive 11-1 win over visiting Forest Lake Wednesday.

“We decided before the game that each quarter we would run different sets,” said Park coach Matt Foote. “Once the score was out of reach, we started to work on ball control, rotations and passing. We did not want to run the score up.

“We were also able to get Bradley Johnson, an eighth grader, a run at attack. We also filtered in a few JV players that worked hard during their game.”

Park then defeated the Raptors 7-4 at East Ridge Friday.

team falls to Cretin

Visiting Cretin-Derham Hall outscored Park 7-2 in the second half Monday to claim a 10-5 win in girls lacrosse Monday evening.

The teams were tied at 3-all at the half.

The loss snapped a twogame winning streak by the Wolfpack and left Park 1-2 in the Suburban East Conference and 3-2 on the season.

Shelby Hansen and Josie Leonard each scored a pair of goals for Park. Megan Maloney had Park’s other score.

Aubree Laska stopped 12 of the 22 shots she faced in goal.

Park is scheduled to play at Mounds View (1-1, 2-1) Wednesday, then have a week off before its next game.

In the previous week’s games, Park lost 11-8 to Forest Lake, then defeated Rochester Mayo 15-1 at home and beat Rochester Century 7-3 at Rochester to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Forest Lake 11, Park 8

Park dropped an 11-8 decision at Forest Lake Wednesday in girls lacrosse.

Park trailed 6-4 at the half.

Shelby Hansen and Megan Maloney each scored three goals for the Wolfpack. Josie Leonard added a pair of scores.

Park 15, Rochester Mayo 1

Shelby Hansen’s four goals and two assists paced Park to a lopsided win over visiting Rochester Mayo.

Madi Brickman added three scores, Kyleigh Mullen and Josie Leonard had two for the Wolfpack. Park’s Megan Husaby, Berlyn Giddings, Ava Reckinger and Finley Leick scored one goal each. Park 7, Rochester Century 3 Shelby Hansen had three goals, Josie Leonard two, Megan Maloney and Madi Brickman one each in the win Saturday. Park baseball team goes 3-2 on the week Park got in a major league schedule last week, playing five games in six days and going 3-2 for the week.

Park (3-2, 3-3) fell to Stillwater 8-7 Saturday, topped Woodbury 8-7 Friday, edged East Ridge 4-3 Thursday and blanked White Bear Lake 4-0 Tuesday, April 19.

This week is almost as busy as Park played Mounds View Tuesday, hosts Roseville (2-1, 2-1) Wednesday, Irondale (0-5, 0-6) Friday and plays at East Ridge (1-4, 2-4) Saturday at noon.

Stillwater 8, Park 7 Stillwater pounded Park pitching for 17 hits, but barely hang on for the win Friday.

The Wolfpack rapped out 12 hits of their own in the loss. Brady Strand and Noah Janski both ripped home runs. Josh Hatano had a pair of doubles.

Elijiah Moechnig homered in the top of the sixth and got two RBIs to bring Park back to 7-5. Janski then homered to make it a 706 game.

Stillwater won it in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out bases-loaded single.

Park 8, Woodbury 7

Noah Janksi walked and scored on an error in the top of the seventh with what turned out to be the winning run as Park edged the Woodbury Royals 8-7.

Woodbury threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run on a single and a double. But Park pitcher Boston Weidner got the next two batters to line out and strike out to end the game with a save.

Josh Hatano was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Wolfpack. Will Smoot went 2-for-3 with a double.

Sam Janski got the pitching win, throwing four innings, giving up five hits. Walking three and striking out three.

Park 4, East Ridge 3

Park squeezed by host rival East Ridge Thursday despite being outhit 9-5.

Jackson Tessman walked to open the sixth inning for Park, then advanced to second and third on two wild pitches. Blake Johnson then hit a two-out game-winning single.

The Wolfpack scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

Park trailed 1-0 and 2-1 before rallying for two runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. East Ridge knotted the game at 3-all in the bottom of the fifth.

Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Park hitters. Josh Hatano was 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Brady Strand had a walk and an RBI.

Park pitcher Brady Drkula gave up seven hits and three runs in sixth inning, walking two and striking out eight to get the win. Park 4, White Bear Lake 0 Park scored its first win of the young season as pitcher Jackson Tessman gave up just three hits in a 4-0 shutout of White Bear Lake on Monday, April 18. Tessman struck out seven, walked four allowed just one extra- base hit. Micah Runion, Josh Hatano and Tessman all doubled for the Wolfpack. Sam Janski went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Hatano also knocked in a pair of runs.

Park scored twice in the fifth inning, once in the fourth and added another in the sixth in the victory.

Nadler leads in Wolfpack girls golf Taylor Nadler led the Park girls with a score of 41 as the Wolfpack golfers hit the River Oaks links Thursday.

Nadler and Maggie Jensen both birdied No.6 to highlight the meet for the Wolfpack.

Nadler, Jensen, Avery Corrigan, Chloe Bestler and Becca Rugless played.

Forest Lake won the match and Park had its best finish of the year with a sixth-place finish.
