Payne scores 38 in Park boys basketball win
Park’s Wolfpack got a big payback victory on the road Friday night, winning 79-68 at Mounds View.
Pharrell Payne had a huge night to lead the Wolfpack, dropping in 38 points.
Earlier this season, Mounds View won at Cottage Grove 67-57 in a game in which Mustang guards Kobe Kirk and Dylan Wheeler each scored 27 points.
On Friday night, Kirk got 23 to lead the Mustangs but Wheeler was held to four points.
Park got off to a strong start and led 42-32 at the break. That start provided decisive as Mounds View played the Wolfpack even in the second half.
OT Omot scored 12 and Evan Bearth 11 for Park.
Park (13-6 on the season) remained tied for second in the Suburban East Conference with Cretin-Derham Hall, both at 8-4 in the conference.
Park 68, Holy Family 50 Pharrel Payne scored 24 points and Evan Bearth 22 as the Park Wolfpack romped to a 68-50 win at Holy Family Catholic (10-10) Wednesday.
OT Omot added 10 points for the Wolfpack.
Park improved to 12-6 on the season.
Mounds View boys skate past Park Mounds View scored a 5-1 victory Saturday over the host Park Wolfpack in Suburban East Conference boys hockey at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
The game was a battle for fourth place in the conference. The Mustangs (7-15-1) secured that by finishing 6-8 in the SEC. Park finished fifth in the conference with a 5-7-1 record.
Park takes a 13-9-1 record into its final game of the regular season, a match at Tartan Thursday, starting at 7 p.m.
Park 4, Apple Valley 2 Park bounced back from a loss at Cretin-Derham Hall with a solid 4-2 win on the home ice over visiting Apple Valley Thursday.
Park grabbed a 2-0 lead on early goals by Samuel Kanski and Vincent Lucio. Apple Valley scored midway through the second period to cut the Wolfpack lead to 2-1.
Colton Porter then answered on an even strength goal to make it a 3-1 Park lead. Again, Apple Valley closed to within one a 3-2 with about 10 minutes remaining.
Brady Strand shut the door on the Eagles with a goal at the 12:24 mark of the third period. Strand also had three assists to lead the Wolfpack. Jackson Rudh added two assists.
Goalie Alex Harden stopped 12 of 14 Apple Valley shots on goal. Park outshot the Eagles 42-14.
Park is 7-2 against non-conference opponents so far this season.
Cretin-Derham Hall 7, Park 1 Top-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall skated to a 7-1 win over visiting Park at Highland Ice Arena Tuesday.
Park scored the first goal of the game on a Tyler Schwartz score just 2:28 into the opening period. From then on it was all Cretin as the Raiders scored the next seven goals. Cretin led 2-1 after one period and 6-1 after two.
The Raiders improved to a perfect 11-0 in the Suburban East Conference. Park remained fourth in the conference with a 5-6-1 mark.
Park girls get defensive in big win Park bounced back from perhaps its toughest loss of the season with one of its best wins in a 46-19 domination of visiting Mounds View Friday night in girls basketball.
The Wolfpack held Mounds View to 12 points in the first half and then to just 7 in the second in a stellar defensive effort. It was the fewest points the Wolfpack had given up this season. Just two players scored for Mounds View.
Tori Henderson scored 11 points to lead a balanced Park offense. Sydnee Nelson and Justine Jameson had 10 each for the Wolfpack.
Park stayed in fifth place in the 10-team Suburban East Conference with an 8-5 record. The Wolf[pack are 12-8 on the season.
Mounds View dropped to 5-9 in the SEC and 9-11 overall.
Park is on the road this week with games at Woodbury Tuesday, as Lakeville North Wednesday and at Irondale Friday.
Stillwater 61, Park 25 League-leading and sixthranked Stillwater (19-3, 13– 1) roughed up visiting Park 61-25 in Suburban East Conference girls basketball Tuesday at Stillwater.
Park could never get much going offensively and trailed 35-13 at the half.
Sydnee Nelson led Park with 7 points. Park played without leading scorer Justine Jameson.
The loss snapped a threegame Park winning streak. Girls hockey team falls in section quarterfinals Park’s girls hockey season ended with a loss to a familiar section foe, as the Wolfpack dropped a 6-0 Section 3AA quarterfinal decision to Burnsville at the Burnsville Ice Center Wednesday.
Park lost a 7-0 game to Burnsville in last season’s section quarterfinals.
Park ended the season 8-18 overall and 3-11 in the Suburban East Conference, finishing eighth. Both records were markedly improved from the 2020-21 season when the Wolfpack finished 0-15 in the conference and 0-16 on the season.
Junior Molly Villas led Park with 12 goals, 12 assists and 24 points. Sophomore Maggie Jensen finished with 12 goals and 21 points. Sophomore Sam Miller had 10 goals, junior Taylar Nadler finished with eight goals, nine assists and 17 total points. All, obviously, are eligible to return n next season. Park had just one senior on its roster this winter.
Dance team finishes 10th at sections Park finished 10th in both the kick division and in jazz in the 14-team Section 3AAA dance team meet held at Bloomington Kennedy High School Saturday.
The Wolfpack had a score of 50 in the 14-team kick division. Mounds View won the kick competition with a score of 10. Park finished above conference rivals Woodbury and East Ridge.
Park was 10th in the jazz division with a score of 52. The Wolfpack finished above conference rivals Stillwater and East Ridge. Blaine won the jazz dance with a score of 5.
