Thunderbolts romp to first win

The South Washington County Thunderbolts scored their first win of the season Wednesday, easily dispatching visiting Mankato 10-3 in adapted hockey at the Woodbury High School Fieldhouse.

“We picked up the pace pretty well and we actually kept up well with the puck,” said Elliott Miller.

“We kept up the pace and got a ton of shots,” said Allen Gillman. “The one thing that I think we need is work on is passing and shooting.”

The Thunderbolts (now 1-2) dropped a 12-1 decision Monday at New Prague, a team coach Jeff Figlmiller feels might be the favorite to win a state title this season.

But the Thunderbolts turned on the offense against Mankato.

“Tonight was good because we could score some goals,” said Figlmiller. “Prior to this we had two goals total. We got the puck at the other end, that’s been our big problem. Our defenses are pretty solid, but we haven’t been getting the puck down there. But tonight we changed some things up/ Allen Gillman usually plays our goalie and we’ve got Logan (Yannarelly) back there who did great. Then I brought Allen out here to give us some more speed.

“We’ve just got to keep it going,” Figlmiller added.
