Girls’ hockey starts 1-2
Park (1-2) fell 7-1 against always-strong Stillwater (2-1) Saturday in girls hockey at the St. Croix Rec Center.
Molly Villas got Park’s only goal of the game on a shot which tied the match at 1-all midway through the first period.
The Ponies then skated away with six more goals for the victory. Park goalie Tori Stepka had 36 saves in the game, but had to face 42 overall shots.
Park dropped a 2-1 decision at home in girls hockey to visiting North St. Paul/Tartan on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
North St. Paul took a 1-0 lead after one period, but Taylar Nadler scored on an even strength play to knot the game at 1-1 in the second period. North regained the lead seven minutes later and that 2-1 edge stood up the rest of the game.
North outshot the Wolfpack 27-15 in the contest.
Adapted soccer at state
The South Washington Country Thunderbolts dropped a pair of hard-fought decisions Friday and Saturday in the CI Division of the Adapted Soccer State Tournament at Stillwater.
South Washington County lost a 5-2 decision to Dakota United Friday in the quarterfinals.
The Thunderbolts then fell by a 4-3 count to South Suburban in the consolation round Saturday morning to be eliminated from the tournament.
The South Suburban Jets took an early 3-1 lead in Saturday morning’s game, but the Thunderbolts rallied to tie the game at 3-all in the second half behind goals from Lucas Murdock and Peyton Chlebecek. The Jets added another goal late in the game to advance to the consolation championship.
Murdock had two goals in the game. Sarah Badeski and Logan Yannarelly had assists.
In Friday’s game, the Dakota United Hawks played solid defense on their way to a win. Dakota United tool a 2-0 lead after the first period but the Thunderbolts tied the game at two goals apiece with a pair of goals from junior Nolan Valens.
The Hawks rallied, however, scoring the final three goals of the game to take the win.
In net, Thunderbolts goalie Allen Gillman had an action- packed game, making 21 saves.
Football honors
Park’s do-it-all player Treyton Bammert-Mueller was named the special teams player of the year for the Maroon South in 6A. Bammert-Mueller played on both lines, punted and kicked for the Wolfpack.
Park had players named to the all-district team: Evan Bearth, Brady Perryman Treyton Bammert-Mueller, Will Smoot, Juan Orozco Sanchez, Blake Johnson, Runion and Alex Carr. All-district honorable mention award winners were: Logan Lucas, Braden Karnitz, Brandan Lee, Otenidi Omot and Owen Rose.
Park offensive coordinator Tim Walton was named the Maroon South Sub-District Assistant Coach of the Year.
