No. 4 Park softball team wins Monday, goes to 7-2

Fourth-ranked Park knocked off host Mounds View 7-1 Monday afternoon in girls softball to improve to 6-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 7-2 on the season.

The Wolfpack went 4-1 in a busy week of softball, including a big win at Winona Saturday and a hard-fought loss at Forest Lake last Wednesday.

The first-of-the-season 2023 Star Tribune Metro Top 10 is led by Rosemount at No. 1, Stillwater at No. 2, Eden Prairie at No. 3 and Park at No. 4. Forest Lake is ranked No. 6 and White Bear Lake No. 10.

Park’s busy slate continues this week as the Wolfpack hosts Woodbury (0-7, 1-7) on Wednesday, Mounds View (1-6, 1-6) on Thursday and Cretin-Derham Hall (6-3, 6-3) on Friday.

Park 6, Irondale 0

Park’s Stella Fritsche picked up her fifth victory of the season in a 6-0 Wolfpack win at Irondale Monday.

Edie Walton smacked two doubles while bringing in three runs for the Wolfpack.  Emma Ambroz and Bryleigh Dana also doubled for Park.

Fritsche finished with eight strikeouts on the night before giving way to Mackenzie Darsow and Ava Youngquist in the circle.

Forest Lake 6, Park 2

Park suffered its first Suburban East Conference loss of the season Wednesday at Forest Lake, falling 6-2 to the Rangers.

Park 4, Winona 1

The Wolfpack handed Winona its first loss of the season Saturday, with Park taking a 4-1 decision. Winona had won eight straight games to open the season.

Park baseball team roughs up Irondale

Host Park had one of its biggest win of the season Monday, knocking off visiting Irondale 10-3 in a Suburban East Conference baseball contest. In two games this season, Park has outscored Irondale 29-11.

The win gives the Wolfpack records of 3-6 in both SEC play and on the season.

Park plays at league-leading Cretin-Derham Hall (8-0. 8-0) Wednesday, then hosts White Bear Lake (5-3, 5-4) on Friday, both games starting at 4:30 p.m.

East Ridge 9, Park 3

Park lost 9-3 in Suburban East Conference baseball at East Ridge Friday afternoon.

The Raptors held Park to just three hits in the game.

Park’s Brett Salmonson had two RBIs without a hit Friday. Tyler Schwartz was 1-for-3, scored a run and had an RBI. Anson Dockter and Brady Drkula had Park’s other two hits.

East Ridge touched three Park pitchers for 11 hits.

Park stopped a three-game Suburban East Conference losing streak with a 5-04 win over visiting Roseville Park.

Visiting Mounds View scored a 10-0 win at Park Wednesday afternoon.

Park LAX falls to visiting Woodbury

Visiting Woodbury (3-0, 4-0) took a 13-4 decision from Park in boys lacrosse Friday evening.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak by the Wolfpack. Park slipped to 1-3 in the Suburban East Conference and 2-4 on the season.

Braden Karnitz, Bradley Johnson and Angelo Cullen scored goals for Park.

Park topped host Forest Lake 6-2 in boys lacrosse Wednesday.

The Wolfpack hosts Stillwater (4-0, 4-1) Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m.

Woodbury tops Park in girls lacrosse

The host Woodbury Royals handed visiting Park its first loss of the season Friday evening, scoring a 12-10 win over the Wolfpack at Woodbury Stadium.

The game was tied at 7-all after the first half. Woodbury outscored Park 5-3 in the second half.

Park fell to 3-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 4-1 overall. Woodbury improved its record to 2-2 in the SEC and 4-2 on the season.

Madi Brinkman had five goals to lead Park. Shelby Hansen had three goals and an assist. Josie Leonard scored two goals with one assist. Lily Newhouse and Maleah McMorrow had one assist each.

Aubree Laska stopped four of 12 shots on goal.

Host Park romped to its third lopsided decision in four games Wednesday with a 16-3 beatdown of visiting Forest Lake at Cottage Grove. Brinkman scored five goals and Hansen four to lead the Wolfpack offense. Leonard scored three goals, Megan Husaby had two goals and Ellie Shea and McMorrow one each.

Park plays at conference-leading Stillwater (4-0, 5-1) this Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m.

Bonin leads boys golf team

Park sophomore Tyler Bonin tied for medalist honors with a 71 to help the Wolfpack place third in a 10-team Suburban East Conference boys golf meet at Gross National Golf Course Tuesday.

Charles Looker, another Park sophomore, was just one stroke off the pace with a score of 72. Other Park scores were Camden Forys, 81; Michael DeStasio, 81; Caden Munger, 87 and Jake Young 88.

Cretin-Derham Hall won the meet with a score of 290, followed by: East Ridge, 300; Park, 305; Stillwater, 307; White Bear Lake, 308; Mounds View 314; Woodbury, 317; Roseville, 336; Irondale, 337; and Forest Lake, 339.

Park opens 2023 football season against East Ridge

Park will open the 2023 football season against a familiar foe, hosting the East Ridge Raptors in the first game of the fall set for Thursday, Aug. 31.

The rest of the slate is a mixture of old and new opponents.

Sept. 8 -- Burnsville at Park. Sept. 15 – Buffalo at Park. Sept. 22 – Park at Roseville. Sept. 29 – Hopkins at Park. Oct. 5 – Park at Eastview. Oct. 13 – Mounds View at Park. Oct. 18 – Stillwater at Park.

All games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. except for the Hopkins game on Sept. 29, which will start at noon. The Wolfpack will have two Thursday games, at home against East Ridge on Aug. 31, and at Eastview on Oct. 5., plus a Wednesday night game against Stillwater in Cottage Grove.
