It was more of the same for the Park Wolfpack Tuesday in the team’s final home game of the season.
The Wolfpack were ultra-competitive, but came up short – literally and figuratively – in a Suburban East Conference loss to visiting Woodbury.
The Royals took a 25-22, 30-28 and 25-17 decision from the Wolfpack.
Woodbury improved to 7-5.
Park fell to 2-9.
The second game illustrated how close the two teams were. It was tied seven times, including 18-18,23-23, 26-26 and 28-28 before the Royals were able to pull off the narrow win.
“We’re mismatched height-wise time and time again,” said Park head coach Amy Johnson. “We’re against teams that have girls that are two-, three-, four-inches taller than us. With that being said our hitters did a fantastic job of hot blocks and finding holes and going around, hitting shots. We’ve just got that outmatched front row so often.
“But our defense played phenomenal,” Johnson continued. “Megan Husaby, our libero, played some fantastic defense and passed well all night. So did Talia Enhstrom and Audrey, Audrey had a great game. Front row, back row she played fantastic. I’m very proud of this team. We seem to get the cards stacked against us and they just keep fighting and what more can you ask for as a coach?”
Park is scheduled to finish the regular season with a pair of road games at Forest Lake (7-4), Thursday, Nov. 19, and then at Cretin-Derham Hall (0-9) Monday, Nov. 23.
Park junior hitter Audrey Sease puts a winning shot over the net against Woodbury in game two last Tuesday. Sease’s shot gave the Wolfpack a 27-all tie in the second game.
