Former girls' volleyball assistant and boys' volleyball head coach Robert Lozinski-McLean takes over more of the main coaching duties this season as longtime head coach Amy Johnson transitions into more of an assistant role.
And it’s as good a time as any for a change.
Last fall was truly a season to forget for Park High volleyball. The Wolfpack went just 2-21 on the season and were 0-9 in the Suburban East Conference.
Park’s only wins were a 3-2 victory against St. Paul Central and a 2-1 win over Math & Science Academy. The Wolfpack had 17 matches where they didn’t win a game.
So, in a real sense, the Wolfpack are starting from scratch this fall.
“We're really excited about the upcoming girls' volleyball season,” said Lozinski-McLean. “The girls have been back in the gym with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and they've been eager to get back to work grinding on the core skills that will help us compete at a high level this fall. The commitment and excitement they've shown already has been great to see, and we're looking forward to building on that throughout the season.”
“A couple of players to keep an eye on this year are Eva Perrin and Hannah Weis,” said Lozinski-McLean. “Eva is a very versatile player who will be contributing all the way around the court. Her ability to impact the game both in the front row and back row makes her a key piece of our team, and she's someone who can influence a match in a variety of ways.
“Hannah Weis will anchor our defense as our libero,” the Park coach continued. “She's a steady presence in the back row, brings strong ball control, and plays a critical role in our serve receive and defensive systems. Her leadership and consistency will be important strengths for us this season.
“Overall, we're excited about the group's work ethic, growth, and potential. The girls are motivated, ready to compete, and looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that the season will bring.”
Park opens the season at North St. Paul Wednesday, Sept. 2, plays at Rosemount Tuesday, Sept. 8, then hosts the home opener against St. Paul Central on Thursday, Sept. 10, starting at 7 p.m.
