Park’s Emily Dahlstrom qualified for state in the all-around and floor and Ashley Davis made it on the bars as the Wolfpack gymnasts competed Friday in the Section 3AA meet at Eagan High School.
No.13 East Ridge edged No. 24 Park for the team title, 143.275 to 140.850. It was Park’s highest score of the season, said Park head gymnastics coach Ali Flaata.
It was a strong showing for the Park girls, as they outscored 14th-ranked Rosemount in the team race. The team score also showed a top rate of progressing this season for the Wolfpack gymnasts, who begin the season with a score of 130.425 against Woodbury in mid-December.
Dahlstrom finished third in the all-around with a score of 35.725. She had three scores of 9 or higher in the four events. Dahlstrom was third in the floor exercise (9.25), sixth on the vault (9.1), ninth on the bars (8.375) and ninth on the beam (9.0).
Davis was fifth in the allaround with a score of 35.5. She qualified for state by placing second on the bars (8.75). She was also ninth on the vault (8.9), seventh on the beam (9.05) and 12th on the floor (8.8).
The top three individuals in the section all-around, plus the next three highest scorers in each individual event qualify for the state meet.
East Ridge’s Laney Schwellenbach finished first on bars, the beam and the all-around with a score of 37.925. Lauren Rodriguez of the Raptors was second with an all-around score of 36.0 and then came Dahlstrom (35.725).
Park sophomore Rainna Jameson finished 10th on the vault (8.9), sixth on the bars (8.475), sixth on the floor (9.15) and eighth in the all-around (34.825). She had an 8.3 on the beam.
With Dahlstrom, Davis and Jameson all finishing in the top eight in the allaround, the Wolfpack had a very successful night.
Makayla Bollman of Park was 21st in the all-around. She was 13th on the bars (8.3), 10th on the beam (8.9) and 14th on the floor exercise (8.750).
Park’s Clara Opichka finished 27tth in the allaround. She had scores of 8.725 on the vault, 7.875 on the bars and 8.3 on the floor.
Natalya Rugel of the Wolfpack was 37th in the all-around. Her scores were 8.2 on the vault and 8.425 on the beam.
Rosemount was third in the section team race with 139.050, followed by: 4, Eagan, 138.100. 5, Apple Valley-Eastview, 132.925. 6, Two Rivers, 130.475. 7, Hastings, 126.375. 8, Woodbury, 119.925.
The state gymnastics meet will be held Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. The team championships are on Friday, with the Class AA individual and all-around championships set for Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
