The Cottage Grove Public Works and Parks Departments will hold an open house Thursday, Sept. 25 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the old public works building, located at 8635 West Point Douglas Road in Cottage Grove. The sensory friendly environment will have limited noises and no music, but also a chance to interact with city heavy machinery.
“Join us for the 2025 Public Works and Parks Open House!” The city announced recently on the Sept. 25 event. “This is your chance to get up close with the big machines city staff use every day. You’ll even get to drive a front-end loader, conquer a giant sand pile, and meet the vendors who help us make it all happen. Don’t miss out on free face painting, and a charming hayride across the property!”
Hot dogs, chips, pop will be available for purchase at the Sept. 25 open house, with those interested in attending simply asked to show up.
Also in public works news from Cottage Grove, meanwhile, is an ongoing sewer lining project from East Point Douglas Road to the dog park.
In progress now through October, the project seeks to enhance the longevity of a critical sewer pipeline that runs from East Point Douglas Road South, under Highway 61 to West Point Douglas Road and south through the dog park. Work was performed Wednesday from Acorn Mini-Storage to WAG dog park, with the remainder of the week involving final televising and clean up.
Last but not least out of Cottage Grove and South Washington County is an ongoing corridor study of a five mile section of Keats Avenue between Highway 61 and Dale Road.
Open now through Oct. 10 and carried out through cooperation between the County, Woodbury, and Cottage Grove, the purpose of the Keats Avenue/County Highway 19 Corridor Study is to “better understand existing conditions, anticipate future corridor needs driven by development, and identify long-term improvement options.” Interested readers can find more and add comments about Keats Avenue issues and opportunities to the corridor study via a study link posted to the Washington County, MN Government Facebook page.
