Eighth-ranked and top seeded Rosemount dominated Park 83-36 in a Class 4A, Section 3 semifinal Saturday afternoon.

The Irish (25-3) jumped out to a 55-14 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Park ends the season with a 10-18 overall record but loses just one starter and two seniors off this year’s young team.

Junior guard/forward Olivia Czarnota was the only Park player in double figures Saturday, scoring 12 points. Sophomore guard Malaya Ramirez had 7 points, eight grade guard Ramsey Nelson and senior guard Graycie Smith 6 each.

Rosemount will host second-seeded Eagan for the Section 3 championship Thursday. The Irish beat Eagan twice during the regular season, winning 72-37 and 81-36.

Park 63 Bloomington Jefferson 46

Park girls' basketball fans got a look at the future Wednesday and had to like what they saw.

Wolfpack eighth grade guard Ramsey Nelson drilled in a season high 20 points to lead fourth-seeded Park to an impressive 63-46 win over visiting fifth-seeded Bloomington Jefferson in a Class 4A, Section 3 quarterfinal at Cottage Grove.

It was the first section quarterfinal win for the Wolfpack since the 2021-22 season.

“(I was) just trying to get open for the teammates and just trying to drive and take it out, and just trying to create,” said Nelson. “I think we just like executed and we knew we wanted to win this one and move on since we haven’t won a quarterfinal in a long time.”

Winners of just three games in the Suburban East Conference thus season, the Wolfpack have feasted on non-conference foes, going 7-2 out of the league, including a sweep of Jefferson.

The No. 4 seed, Park advanced to play at top-seeded Rosemount Saturday. The Irish (24-3) crushed eighth-seeded Apple Valley (3-24) 94-27 in another quarterfinal Wednesday. Other quarterfinal winners were second-seeded Eastview (19-8) over seventh-seeded Burnsville (8-19) by an 83-39 score and third-seeded Eagan (10-17) winning over sixth-seeded Hastings 60-42.

After a bit of a slow start for both teams, Park took an early 15-6 lead and led 28-19 at the half. Jefferson made some brief runs late in the game, but the Wolfpack basically maintained at least a 10-point edge the rest of the away, outscoring Jefferson 35-27 after intermission.

The Wolfpack had very balanced scoring behind Nelson’s 20-point effort. Olivia Czarnota scored 10, Graycie Smith 9, Mariah Nasby 8, Tea Alvarenga 7 and Malaya Ramirez 6.

With just two seniors on the roster this season, starting guard Smith and reserve Pajyeeb Kong, this was always going to be a work in progress year for Park. But with four starters and the top reserves all able to return next winter, the future is very bright indeed for the Wolfpack.

“I think it was a very wild game. I think we all played together well, and I think that was a very big team win of ours,” said junior guard Mariah Nasby. “I’d say it was one of our best, yea, for sure. We put ourselves together and we got the win. We listened to our coaching. They told us what to do and we followed and we were disciplined.”
