On Thursday, February 6, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL-Saint Paul) appointed Senator Judy Seeberger (DFL-Afton) to two Advisory Councils - the Public Safety Advisory Council and the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.
Formed in 2020, the Public Safety Advisory Council consists of designees from Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Police and Peace Officers Association, Chiefs of Police Association, Sheriff’s Association, community leaders and appointed members of the Legislature. The goal of the Council is to assist the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST Board) in maintaining policies that ensure the protection of civil and human rights.
The Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council was formed in 2024 - part of a package of EMS legislation championed by Senator Seeberger - and is tasked with guiding Minnesota’s new Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and making recommendations to ensure high-quality emergency care across the state. Members of the Council include Legislative appointees, members of the public, representatives from Minnesota’s Ambulance Association, Fire Fighters Association, Association of EMS Physicians, Fire Chiefs Association, social workers and designees from Minnesota’s Departments of Health and Public Safety.
“I am thankful for and humbled by this opportunity to further serve our state,” said Senator Seeberger. “Two of my top priorities at the Legislature have been supporting public safety and ensuring reliable emergency medical services for all Minnesotans, no matter their zip code. I look forward to these opportunities to learn more from stakeholders and experts on how we can continue this crucial work.”
