St. Paul, MN - Following reporting that 3M is claiming military immunity and is not liable for PFAS pollution released from the environment from its Cottage Grove plant, Senator Judy Seeberger (DFL-Afton) issues the following statement:
“This is a slap in the face to the people of my community who are facing life-threatening illnesses from the PFAS pollution that happened under 3M’s watch. By using this defense, 3M is trying to avoid facing the consequences of its own actions, something the families in my district struggling with cancer can’t.
“Instead of hiding behind a federal loophole, I strongly support our state regulators and state courts deciding this case on the merits. After 6 years, it’s time for 3M to undertake the corrective actions it needs to protect the health, safety, and well-being of the communities and Minnesotans who have been impacted by this pollution.”
