The Thunderbolts went to 3-0 on the young season with a convincing 13-3 win over visiting St. Paul Johnson Monday afternoon at East Ridge in adapted soccer.

“We did pretty good, just getting shots in goal, and passing was pretty good,” said senior Logan Curtis, who had five goals to lead the Thunderbolts.

Brett Wedan had three goals for South Washington, Brayden Curtis two, while Jordan Nde, Keira Walker and Alex Kingman had one each.

Thunderbolts ninth grade goalie Asher Lange had another solid game in the net, recording 13 saves.

“It’s really good,” said Lange. “The team is really good. We have good offense and we have good defense. We can still improve, no matter what.”

South Washington has now beaten Dakota United (8-2), Lakeville/Burnsville/Farmington (4-0) and now Johnson to open the season.

“We did well tonight,” said Thunderbolts coach Jeff Figlmiller. “Good passing with that starting line. They’re passing well, they’re shooting well, they’re getting good rebounds. They’re quick. Getting to goal when we need a couple goals it seems like they’re getting the job done.

“Defense is very strong in the back,” Figlmiller continued. “We’ve got one senior back there and then two underclassmen that are playing really well too. We’re getting the ball up to the front, keeping it away from our goal and helping our young goalie. He’s doing a really good job. He’s quick. If he gets a goal scored upon him, he forgets about it and moves on to the next thing.”

The Thunderbolts now have five straight road games, starting Monday at South Suburban.
