St. Paul Park will celebrate Heritage Days once again, taking place this year August 15 through August 8. The 40th annual Heritage Day festivities kick off Thursday August 15 at Heritage Park with a movie at dusk. City park staff will be showing what is described as “a great family movie,” with popcorn and beverages available as well.
Come Friday at 4 p.m., event goers will have a chance to sample from a wealth of cuisine options, as well as a beer tent (with $2 wristband) run by the St. Paul Park-Newport Lions Club.
Among the foods (a non-exhaustive listing) one might sample at Heritage Days include grilled corn from the American Legion, Cambodian food, Big Ben’s Kettle Corn, and Booya, as well as hot dogs, bratwurst, and burgers.
Food vendors for Heritage Days include Chimborazo on Wheels, Coffee Bugg, Eagle Concessions, Eggroll Queen, Floyd’s Donut & Shaved Ice, Keo’s Shaved Ice, Sabroses Street Tacos, Sunset Sips, The Little Carnival, and The Rusty Kettle.
Also in plans for Friday at Heritage Days are Inflatables and Barrel Train provided by Arcade Highway, Business Expo and Craft Fair , and Kiddie Fun by the Little Carnival, all three available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Comes 5 p.m. there will be Scouts Dunk Tank and Inflatable Archery, DJ Dan and Karaoke taking place beginning at 5:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the band Jonah and the Whales will be in the back parking lot of American Legion Post 98.
Come Saturday more fun is in store, with the beer tent open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., as well as food vendors and a chance to find special Heritage Days painted rocks through the park. An opportunity to take photos with cut out characters will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m, while a business expo and craft fair from 10 a.m. top 6 p.m.
Come 10:30 a.m. a parade will be held, starting at Third Street downtown and ending at Heritage Park. Grand Marshal and Business of the Year recipients will be announced on the main stage at 11:45 a.m., while the City of St. Paul Park will have a booth from noon to 3 p.m. with details on lead pipe and Third Avenue projects as well. From noon to 1 p.m. Steve Jacoby will perform as a One Man Rock Band, while from noon to 3 p.m there will be a classic car and motorcycle show on fourteenth Avenue between Lincoln and Portland.
Also on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m, an operators sandbox for kids sponsored by Local 49 will be at Lincoln Avenue, while Touch A Truck will be at Lincoln Avenue between 13th and 14th Avenue.
With several more events on Saturday including pony rides and Family Bings, the fun lasts long into the night before picking up Sunday with a Pancake Breakfast at the Masonic Lodge, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Additionally, a Mud volleyball tournament will take place next to the Lions building at 500 Broadway Avenue, while beer and food will also be available.
Root beer floats will be offered as well, with food trucks and the Gopher State Garden Tractor Pull between Second and Third Street from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Last but not least, a wrestling extravaganza will take place in the back parking lot of the American Legion from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Come on out and enjoy the fun!
