Stillwater knocks out Saint Paul Park in Legion tourney

It was a bit of a roller-coast ride for Saint Paul Park In the 2025 American Legion 3rd District Sub-State tournament at Eagan July 24-27.

After an opening day rain out Wednesday, fourth-seeded Woodbury defeated St. Paul Park 7-2 in the first round Thursday.

Park then dropped eighth-seeded East Ridge 4-1 in the first round of consolation play at Big Rahn Park.

But the next game was a season-ender for Park as the team fell to second-seeded Stillwater 10-0 in five innings in the double-elimination tournament at Goat Hill Park Saturday evening.
Stillwater took control early and led 2-0 after one inning, 4-0 after three, 7-0 after four and put the game in ice with three more runs in the fifth. St. Paul Park, meanwhile, seldom connected at the plate and had just one hitter get as far as third and three more to advance to second. But none of the Park hitters could bring any of those baserunners home.

In other first-round games, second-seeded Stillwater blanked seventh-seeded Inver Grove Heights 10-0, third-seeded Hastings dropped sixth-seeded Eastview 6-0 and top-seeded Eagan powered past East Ridge 11-1.

Eagan defeated Stillwater and Hastings knocked off Woodbury in the tournament semifinals on Sunday.

“I’m so proud of these guys,” said team manager Justin Hennum. “They battled all season. We won some and we lost some but the camaraderie in the dugout was something special to be a part of. Shoutout to Coach (Chris) Crumb for all his hard work organizing everything.”
