It was a hot and windy morning for a race, but the basket of fresh strawberries for the finishers helped ease the pain a bit.
An even 100 runners participated in the 2025 Strawberry Fest 5K Saturday morning at Kingston Park, followed by about an equal number of enthusiastic youngers who gave it their all in the kids 1K.
Tristan Kick was the men’s and overall winner in a time of 19:56.66. Kick averaged 6.25 per mile and finished in front by 38 seconds.
Malia Stalock repeated as the top female finisher, coming in sixth overall in 23:27.75. Her pace was 7.33 minutes a mile.
The top five finishers were: Kick (19:56.66); 2, James Harvey (20:34.73); 3, Alan Rodriguez (22:00.96), 4, Sam Paulsen (23:03.36) and 5, Nolan Bowe (23:08.23).
A 5K run is 3.1 miles long. The runners ranged from Kick’s winning time of under 20 minutes to about an hour for the more leisurely paced participants.
1473 -- Tristan Kick (987) won the Strawberry Fest 5K in a time of 19:56.66.
1486 -- 2025 Park High graduate and cross country and track ace Sam Paulsen (82) finished fourth overall in a time of 23:93.36.
1491 – Malia Stalock (957) was the top women’s finisher Saturday in a time of 23:27.75.
1509 – Korbin Lanik (977) and Ashlee Lanik (987) come ti the finish line Saturday. The 5K was often a family affair with mom and dads and young runners finishing side by side.
1517 – Cottage Grove youngsters are off at the start of the 1K Saturday morning.
1523 – Young runners jockey for position as the race gets underway.
1537 – Runners in the 1K had to navigate a four corner square course at Kingston Park, which occasionally proved to be a little tricky fir the youngest competitors.
