Supporting those living with Dementia event scheduled for April 23, 2026

Residents who want to better understand dementia, and how to support people living with it, will have a chance to learn more at an upcoming community event in Hastings.
Benedictine Living Community–Regina will host a free Dementia Friends presentation on Thursday, April 23, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The one-hour gathering is being held in partnership with Dementia Friends Minnesota and will be led by Dementia Friends Champion Colleen Fritsch.
Organizers say the event is designed for anyone who wants practical insight into how dementia affects individuals and families. That includes caregivers, spouses, adult children, neighbors, church members, and friends who want to respond with greater understanding and confidence.
The presentation will introduce the basics of dementia, including what the condition is and what it is not. Attendees will also learn simple ways to support someone living with dementia and practical tools that can help create more meaningful, comfortable interactions in everyday life.
The event invitation highlights how dementia affects entire communities, not just individuals or families.
“If someone you care about is living with dementia, or you simply want to better understand how to support a neighbor, friend, or family member, this gathering is for you.”
The message also reflects the strong sense of community that residents often associate with Hastings.
“In a close-knit community like Hastings, we look out for one another. And when dementia touches a family, it touches more than just one person. It affects conversations, confidence, and connection.”
Organizers say the presentation is intended to be welcoming and approachable rather than technical.
“This isn’t a clinical lecture, it’s a conversation grounded in compassion, community, and confidence.”
The event will take place at Benedictine Living Community–Regina, located at 1008 First Street West in Hastings. Attendance is free, though organizers note that space is limited and early reservations are encouraged.
Community members are also encouraged to attend with someone they know.
“Bring a friend. Bring a loved one, because in Hastings, we don’t face things like this alone.”
