The South Washington County Thunderbolts wrapped up a successful 2025 adapted softball season Saturday at Chanhassen High School with a fourth-place finish at state.
The Thunderbolts topped previously undefeated Osseo 14-4 in the CI Division quarterfinals, lost to eventual champion Dakota United 15-11 in the semifinals, then dropped a tough 9-8 decision to Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville in the third-place game.
The 9-8 result was identical to the one the two teams made during the regular season.
Dakota United won the title with a 4-2 win over New Prague.
“We played well against Dakota United but just came up short,” said South Washington County head coach Jeff Figlmiller. “Brett Wedan hit three home runs in the game: back-to-back-to-back. What a great performance by Brett. “He’ll be with us again next season.
Weden also made a couple of spectacular plays on defense for the Thunderbolts.
“What a close game for third place, losing 8-9 against Burnsville / Lakeville,” Figlmiller continued. “The game went back and forth but we came up short in the top of the seventh inning. The players and coaches had a fun weekend. We will be losing four seniors after the game, so recruiting will be a top priority for our team.”
Weden and Logan Curtis were both named to the all-state tournament team.
South Washington County finished the season with an even record at 5-5.
Members of the team this season included seniors Logan Yannarelly, Autumn Hustings, Fiona Harris, Herbert King; juniors Quinn Schwartz, Keria Walker, Gretchen Kopren, Alexis Gates, Brett Weden, Logan Curtis and Jordan Nde; sophomores Abby Nathlich, Alex Krogman; freshman Michael Zhang; eighth graders Brayden Curtis, Ashton Turvold; and seventh grader Brooke Bodurtha.
